Door on the Zj has been squeaking like crazy...finally snapped and bought some hinges for it. ( You can move the door up and down)
I've always sprayed wd40 on them with no luck, sprayed lithium grease on them today and no squeak.
But I already bought the hinges so might as well.

I'm in Severn, MD. I joined this forum back in 2010. I had every intention of buying an XJ then. I had a kid and that dream was put on hold. A project XJ landed in my lap last week. The wife and I just bought our XJ! We picked up a 1996 Cherokee Classic for $500. It runs without burning oil and 4WD works. The transmission seems strong and its not too beat up on the outside. that's the good. The bad... everything else.
Our intention for this build is strictly as a toy. We want something to take out on the weekends and on vacations. we will use it off road as well for ski trips, beach trips and camping. we know what we think looks good, but this is all we know so far. What do you guys recommend?
We would like a lift, bumpers, winch, roof rack/ basket and a rear tire carrier. What say you MD club?

skip the roof basket - it'll just get caught on east coast trees
3.5-5" of lift and 33s is the sweet spot for capability and longevity of the stock axles

So far we were thinking 4.5" lift. As for the 33s, what kind of gearing works best there? I think that my TC is a 2.27:1(it has a tag on it that says "ratio 272"). Thanks again! I need more of this type of input!

Thank you for the heads up on the rack. Our thought is that we will need the cargo space (family trips). I may have to come up with a quick-connect mounting system. I don't mind taking that off when going off road.

What rear axle? Does it have a flat tab on the bottom of the differential?

It is an Automatic. I'm not sure about the rear axle. Ill look tonight, what all am I looking for? what does the flat tab indicate?
