So most of the research is telling me that it is most likey a stuck/collapsed lifter or a stuck valve.

I am thinking tomorrow getting some MMO and running it for a day, then an oil change to Mobile 1 High Mileage 10w-30 to see if it helps.

If I have to fix a lifter/valve, what is involved. I am a suspension guy...internals of the engine, not so much. I have yet to rebuild a 4.0.

Not too bad, all that's pretty much residing under the valve cover.

Don't you have to pull the head to do lifters?

Hey Jimmy,
I'll be out there Thursday PM, I'll listen to it then....
That's sounds like a "lower end" knock....
If it was a lifter/valve it would be more of a loud tapping noise....

Tedious, but easy enough with time consumption. Getting the top seal thru the channel or whatever can be a PITA sometimes.

I am not ordering anything yet...because I do not yet KNOW for sure what the issue is...but what is a good source for upper/lower/master rebuild kits that are affordable/good?

Mike...I will wait for your fine ear on Thursday....I am just researching/prepping because mechanics DON'T touch my rig, just me, and people with my express permission...lol.

I actually would LIKE to do it...kinda...I have done so much to this rig mechanically, that with a reman engine, it's good to go for quite a while. I just want to know for sure what part to "reman"....

So...sources?

When you're ready to do it I have a RMS you can have for what I paid for it $16. There's a write up in one of the sections here I'll see if I can dig it up

I found a lot of really resonable parts at Summit, they actually have a HUGE selection of jeep engine parts

And I have a set of main and rod bearings, I haven't RMA'd them yet
