Well you might want to find out who punched a hole in your cat and call the humane society.

Haha but seriously, on an obd1 setup, as long as there is no exhaust leak or blockage your Jeep won't know anything is wrong with the cat. It may run better with a new one though because it will give it a good amount of backpressure which inline motors love.

You'd probably get better gas mileage if you replaced that on sensor. Your upstream of sensor is more important and controls more than the downstream though.

Yeah I've been driving it with the exhaust dumping straight out of the cat, which is insanely loud (but I'm ok with it...), but it doesn't run that well

Try out that exhaust kit from performance-curve. It works great and is cheaper than a stock replacement from the Autoparts store. 2.5" mandrel bent catback for around $100.... can't beat it.

I have a new muffler and I ordered a new cat from performance curve today, just need to get it all installed once the cat comes

Sounds good. He sells good products... I just wish he had higher horsepower cats. Every time I run hard I smell the cat burning. At first I thought it was a cheap quality cat but then I got under the Jeep and realised that the outer casing on the cat has turned blue. That would explain why I'm burning it up... not the cats fault.

That's how I'm driving right now cause I still can't get the downstream to come off. Gonna try something new tomorrow but yea its so loud it gives me headache. I did notice though that it got a little more jumpy when I goose it and a little quicker too

Here's a trick for getting o2 sensors off.

First of all, no penetrating oils... not a good idea on exhaust. What you want to do is take a torch and apply a good amount of heat to the pipe surrounding the o2 sensor. Once you've got that nice and hot, take a can of that compressed air they use to clean out keyboards, turn it upside down, and spray the o2 sensor. Have a wrench handy to start wrenching on it right away.

Haha all my buddies are amazed when I show them that. Everybody laughs when they see a can of air duster in my tool box until they see that trick.

If anybody doesn't know what happens when you spray a can of air duster upside down try it... just don't point it at anybody's skin.

Torches are surely your best friend when working on exhaust. I recommend an o2 sensor socket to make things a lot easier. more leverage as well so you won't need AS much heat as you would using a wrench. You can find them at auto parts stores. They are almost fully round but are missing a slit so the wires can go there when putting the socket on the sensor. Just for you guys that have never seen one....
