Anyone have a spare starter I could use to assure mine it ded & buy? Fairly certain my starter is done did ded.
Have power to starter and have power when key is turned (signal wire). Gave er a few good smacks but no luck. Occasionally will growl and attempt to turn it over but doesn't have the schwooptie.

It would be way easier to check if you're getting proper power, and maybe try jumping the terminals. If you question the power, used a set of jumpers or a jump box straight to the starter.

I had the same trouble last year. There was power where it should have it and the connections were all good but it would just click and sometimes not even that.
I just bought a remanned starter and slapped it on. I was amazed at how much faster it would crank and fire up after the install

Yeah, basically.... As long as your engine isn't locked up, and voltage at the starter doesn't plummet when you try to crank it, sounds like a starter. I usually voltage drop test the starter lead, but I don't find them to be too problematic in the xj's

I'd like to think the engine isn't locked up... but it did sit for a solid year almost 2 before I jump started it last. Jumped it twice to move it and now shes like, there's just no whey.
