constructive criticism:
by jamming that round filter in the stock box you are greatly reducing it's ability to filter air, ie for air to move around it. There needs to be some clearance around the filter for air to flow. With a heat shield it will be even worse. You may see a loss in power and mpg with that setup.
all you're doing is sticking a round peg in a square hole filter wise so i don't see the benefit over the stock filter...

I was looking at it this way. With the stock box with top cover on it. The only way air gets pulled across the oem filter element is thru that small inlet in the front of the box. You think having a cone filter open sitting in the box will get less air then the oem paper element in a covered box? Not trying to debate just looking for your insight.

They lied to you, they still sell them. They just don't stock them and have to order them in. Not many parts places stick anything other than autolite and some ngk

My hood vents def cut down on engine bay heat though.
Hood vents and CAI will NOT affect engine cooling. That's your cooling system's job. If you have overheating issues you need to address which components (radiator, water pump, radiator, thermostat) are not doing their job.

Yea absolutely Cai will not affect engine temp. It will reduce your intake air temp which whether its useful in any application is a 10 year debate. I'm thinking about what dukie said... I may have reduced the surface area of the actual intake filter element but I was hoping for more effective airflow with less area than a fram paper. I'm going to remove bottom box , run it open and see if any difference... My question is... What affect does intake have one intake manifold pressure & intake air temps? The engineers obviously know better for standard applications but I'm a tinker so I have to do my experiments.

That's the same thing as people thinking a cooler stat will help cooling when all your doing in constantly moving coolant not allowing it to cool properly through the system.

I have no idea. I went in and said need plugs for 2000 Cherokee and asked if they had champions and I was told they no longer carry them so I got autolites and I still want champions. He tried to sell me ngk but I've always thought they were for imports.
