just put a new alternator in last Thursday, not even 100 miles on her. on my way home from work just now I hearing loud rattle like a fan blade hitting plastic. I got out and checked, all good except a whining noise coming from the side where my oil filter is and oil pressure is all good. 3 mins later *clunk* and belt wrapped around the fan and I'm missing a bolt from the bottom of the alt bracket and the pulled is snapped but still attached also black oil/grease is leaking from alt. WTF?! I'm def getting another alternator under warranty and new belt. but what was that whining? someone help bc I was I an accident with my other car and have to buy a new car so I need to fix this immediately!! thanks guys

assuming you bought the cheap "white box" rebuilt alternator from the parts store... they are hit or miss for quality, but usually have lifetime warrantee. Also assuming the mech fan is in good shape, sounds like you may have melted the alternator down internally. ... just a guess, pics help haha

Barbie drove a TJ.
General Patton drove a leaf sprung Jeep.

I hate the average Wrangler owner's attitude, but I've always wanted one. I love it, but I miss my unibody. Like I said, my next one will probably be a chop.

Then he's a chode. I'm bitter and set in my ways. Plus I'm already an arrogant bastard.
