Depends on the brand/style. But yes to some, as long as you can feel oil resistance throughout travel they are fine

Wel don't be surprised, it's rough country. Lol. I plan to use it as temporary so I can measure and order bilsteins.

How can I find out if its for appropriate lift though.

All rough country shocks I've seen ate like that. It's because they are just oil, no gas. Measure them, and Google. Someone somewhere has measurements.

Rough country had a shock chart on there website. I used to have it saved to my phone. Ill see if I can find it again.
