Well the dis-assembly isn't hard, but reinstalling can be tricky. If you can use the same ring carrier without getting new spider gears and a carrier you are pretty much done. I assume you are running 3.73s in your XJ?

Yea I've torn several axles down but I haven't messed with installing gears yet. I'm running 3.55's currently. They aren't horrible on my 33's but they were pretty bad with 35's. If I was running a stock motor it would probably be a different story though. The added power helps A LOT.

I can imagine, I wish I could do more to my 4.0L, but being a fulltime college student doesn't allow for much wiggle room on finances. Did you swap your rear out for the Chrysler like everyone else has? I assume you have the Dana30 front.

Yea I'm pretty limited on funds aswell.... this has been a four year build so far. My rig came stock with a c8.25 but I'm on my second one right now. When I blew my first d30 I got a good deal on front and rear axles with low miles so i took my locker out of my old c8.25 and put both axles in. I still haven't gotten that locker in my new rear though because I'm waiting until i have all the parts for my disk brake conversion. I have to pull the axle shafts to do the brake swap so I'm just going to do both at once and save money on diff fluid. I run Royal Purple gear oil so pouring that out is just throwing money away.

Sounds like a good idea. Mine is on 8months, I got it with some problem areas, and most things have been taken care of, it was initially purchased out of Philly and made its way to Pittsburgh 10years later. I'm trying to stick with just WJ axles so I don't have to fab up new mounts and such, thereby saving me money too.

Yea I'm not at the position to Fab things up either. One day i will be, but today's not that day. My build would DEFINITELY be much further if it wasn't for it breaking so much. It's had a VERY hard life and the cost of repairs has no doubt outweighed the blue book on the vehicle stock. I love this Jeep though and I can't get myself to give up on it. I initially brought it back from the grave and i fully plan on keeping it going.

Yeah, I understand. My WJ looked like hell, ran worse, and seemed to have noises and leaks from everything. well He runs amazing now, looks are getting much better and most leaks are gone, aside from the water on the front floorboards and a leak from the LED 3rd brake light I put in.

Yea mine hadn't run in over 2 years when I got it and the previous owner did nothing but mudbog with it stock. I filled a 5 gallon bucket one day scraping mud off of everything on it and that was just the stuff I caught. The oil was chunky when I changed it.

By the way, the previous owner was my sister.

I can imagine how bad that might be, the one 90XJ my neighbor has, is rusty in almost everywhere and didn't run for about a year, so I may have my hands full. It's a Limited with the sunroof and 4.0L auto, so since it's an OBD1, I was going to swap it out for an AX15 and run D44in the rear and play with it as much as possible.

Sounds like it'll be a lot of fun. Ironically, the floor boards of my rig having 3+ inches of water on the the entire time it sat saved my floor land from rusting. I only have a small amount of surface bubbles on the bottom lip of my doors.

Good luck with that sunroof! Haha
