1987 xj 350 SBC swap UNDER $1,000
Reporting in from AZ, great wheelin'.
I picked up a a 2dr 2.5L 1987 xj for $300. The motor was SMOKED and already pulled. I towed it to the shop to look it over. Bone stock cept a BB 2 in. found out it was an old fire station vehicle in flagstaff AZ. the interior is hammered but it has a sun roof (first one i have seen).
so i grabbed some 35's from the back and slapped them on. big mistake i couldn't even turn it to get it into the shop. 10 deg. max turn. so i chopped the fronts and rolled the rear fenders oh so sexy.
Doing my usual craigslist scrolling after work and see a 1970 ish 350 with sm465 and np205 complete from fan to output seal for $300. i jumped on that like no other.
figure the worst part is going to be cooling the small block in such a small space. digging through old radiators to find something that will fit. I find a freaking Thick aluminum that is soo close to being perfect. plasma time! after pretty much rebuilding the passanger frame rail i got it to fit inside the core support. with some mods to the hoodlatch and some hood pins (i had to ditch the secondary latch) it is in and looks great.
So thats where i stand after 2 weeks and $600! ill post pics tomorrow. check back to see the beast!!
