1989 DD XJ Preservation
Hey guys!
I just got my first Cherokee - a 1989 XJ Laredo. This isn't my first Jeep - I've had a CJ-7 & I have a 1991 YJ that's already built for the trails. So this Cherokee is going to remain relatively unmodded but just improved where I can do it and document everything I do! So here's the scoop -
I've been DD'ing my Wrangler and I finally decided I needed something a little more comfortable, roomy, and just more practical. I was originally dead set on getting a 4Runner (as I've had many Toyotas before) but fell in love with this XJ. The guy owned it since 2002 and had all the records for everything he'd done. It was a secondary vehicle for him here in Arizona and he only put about 20k miles on it since he owned it. It currently has a 3" lift and 31 x 10.50 BFG's that are pretty old. Plus I think I got the truck at a steal - $3800!
Here's some pics:
This XJ is in really good shape but I've got some tinkering to do. So far I've already replaced the alternator (in the emissions parking lot), spark plugs, stereo and oil. I also greased up all the windows tracks to help the windows work better - what a difference that made!
This is what I have to do to it (so far):
-Driver's side door hinge repair
-Convert to open cooling system
-Volvo fuel injector mod
-New tires
-New rear passenger door window regulator
-Tranny fluid
-Differential oil
-Just go through the whole vehicle
-Unibody stiffeners
I don't think this thing will see too much off-road action since it's my to work car, but it might be getting a better lift and bigger tires down the road when I get something else (maybe a couple years )
Thanks for letting me join the forum guys!
