Alright, so I put another cps in this morning and it’s still got an ac voltage of .3 at peak of crank like the other two. Maybe this isn’t my problem. For some reason I wanted it to be. I almost went to the junkyard to pull one to see if I could get an original one that worked. I think I’m losing my mind. On the positive side I am a pro at replacing it now so there is that.

I’m going to make sure I’m still getting spark then check the pressure in the fuel rail and start cleaning out sensor plugs/check vacuum lines while I think of more things to replace to get this thing to start consistently.

Figured out while cleaning the grounds that the negative cable needed replaced so I did that. I cleaned sensors and checked bolts and installed the Idle air control, the ignition control module, the cps twice which still reads .3 (I’m going to take it out again and drill it to see if I get a different result but not tonight..) it has been starting up today but it’s cooler and it’s still a long crank so I imagine it is still not resolved. I have a new starter as well that I’ll install eventually (old one is caked in some oil from its previously fixed oil leak but is still cranking) but I don’t believe that’s the problem. gotta go work on other projects now

Will use lead as secondary ground

When it does run it’s got a little more pep now. That’s promising.

Nice.

Corroded ground cables can cause all kinds of bad stuff.

Alright just got done doing my CPS again after drilling out that upper mounting bolt and I’m at a solid .5 volts also did the starter while I was down there and..... it still is only starting after cranking on it for some time

I will try that. I’m gonna grab a pressure gauge as well and check the pressure at the line. My pump is making a low humming noise when it’s not going to start. Then it starts and dies. Eventually then I hear the pump click and make a higher pitch noise and it turns right over and runs like a champ. I’m also going to clean up the ground on the pump and see if that helps. Wanna rule out everything before the pump since it’s new but I know there are failures out of the box and it is a carter....

I am getting proper pressure some of the time. 0 others. I can cycle the key 10-20 times until I hear the pump sometimes. Sometimes it starts and dies immediately others it starts and runs like a champ then will start ten more times in a row no problem. I cleaned connector at pump and the ballast connectors, cleaned the relay terminals and new relay. The intermittent failure is driving me crazy but I feel like I am getting close to narrowing it down. It always eventually starts up and runs but it’s frustrating.

With regulator vacuum disconnected

pump making normal noise upon start jumps to 39 then steady 32 while running. No start no pressure in rail.

August kicked my ***! I’m back for a minute though. Got the front brakes done finally. New rotors calipers and pads. I fixed that noise but now I’ve got another couple squeaks and noises to chase.

Now I’m gonna go poke around the forums for some info on rear brake conversion.

Here's pretty much all you need to know. Finding parts may be a trip though. Big David's source(s) seem to have about dried up.

I did the conversion on my '96 using one of his Jeep ZJ kits. Very easy to do mod.

Thanks! I need to dig further but I’m thinking it would be a fun upgrade and would make it so I never have to touch drums again which would be great.
