1991 Jeep Cherokee Build to 2001
#271
Let me know how the door install goes, I picked up a set of front doors off a 01 for my 95, I had all manual before and now hoping I can get all the new power windows, locks and mirrors to work. Not sure where to start with the wiring though...

Just cleaned up the wheels and fixed all the door locks on the Cherokee, now the doors all lock again. Finished putting the back doors factory tinted glass in from out of a 97-01 and they fit in just fine. I even put everything original back on it. emblems and mirrors. Now switching to the 2001 is easier now, just swap fenders, front doors with Cherokee lettering on them, front header panel / grille and the hatch "still being worked on.
Still on fence if wanting to do an entire dash swap meaning just skinning the out dash panels on a 84-96 dash witch still have or just do the center with wood grain. Even got a extra dash bezel to use for the cutting since I am not going to cut that wood grain dash that's in it now. So I got a black bezel and a 97-01 wood grain dash center bezel.

Been working on the dash cluster and going to use the original gauge cluster in the 97+ dash. So I am going to go ahead and install the entire 97+ dash in my Cherokee while keeping my electronics the same, Much easier and less of a headache with wiring.

Even the Jeep 2500 mixed all the 84-01 Cherokee parts together.
The 2500 went back and reused the older 96 and earlier AC control unit.

So I am debating on wanting to get the 97+ blackish gray carpet (2 piece set) and the seats. The trim is light grey in my Cherokee and found the matching color paint you can get for that charcoal color found in 97+ Cherokee interior. I know it wasn't a plain black but a charcoal color and this is it. (Can be found at lowes where I got mine) So I was wondering will all the trim in 97+ fit the older Cherokees? Their is that hump in the front where the 2 seats are bolted to and will need to get those as well if getting the seats. Will the back bolts be fine for the newer seats and will the metal frame for the seats that bolt onto cover over my 2 existing bolts for the current seats so I will not have to cut them if ever wanting to put back in the original seats.

Well I got the dash core and installed the gauge cluster. I will probably not install the dash for awhile since I don't have much time right now. I didn't get the carpet or newer seats since the carpet is thinner then my original one and the seats feel less comfortable then mine. So just doing the simple dash swap.

Updates on the Cherokee. Haven't been on here for awhile. Just got all maint/tune up Mopar parts for the Cherokee such as air filter, fuel filter, oil filter and looking for Mopar spark plugs. Wanting to keep everything factory OEM. The bad thing so far is the clear coat is coming off bad on the Cherokee this year. I am not sure if it is that new Turtle wax spray or not and may dry out the clear coat. But also the Cherokee is almost 30 years old. I am hoping to get the entire thing repainted again "Same Color" The Door jams and under hood should be fine but the bodys roof and hood is coming off.

The easiest way to do the dash swap without any wiring problems is do what I did and either use your current gauge cluster or buy another one like I did not to mess up your real cluster if want to go back. Cut the light indicators side off flush and you'll have it as just the gauges only now and will look like how my images are on here. The cluster fits in but may have to cut the replacement dash for the cluster is fatter then the 97+ one. Also you will need to go to the junk yard and get a 97+ gauge cluster clear cover. It snaps off of it. then you'll need to do some cutting on the 84-96 gauge surround so it can fit snug and do your own screw holes. I can get more images of the custom cluster if want.
Also in your image you'll need the 97+ fenders. I still haven't worked on the 97+ hatch yet but have one. I am working on 3 vehicles as my projects and it is winter here so no time to work on anything.

I think you can leave the heater core their but you do need the Frame for the 97+ dash or the dash panels will not be able to mount to anything. The 84-96 is a complete 1 part dash. The 97+ is the frame core and then the panels screwed to it. This is the frame core you need if going to install the 97+ dash. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dash-Inner-S...hYfQKi&vxp=mtr
