Default Minor Oil Leak

A few days ago I pulled my oil dipstick and noticed the oil was a little lower than normal. So I checked underneath the Jeep to look for leaks. And sure enough I found the culprit, the oil filter adapter. Im guessing the seal has finally worn out. Considering the entire thing is 100% stock original, im surprised this is the only thing that has gone out. Seems like an easy fix.

Default Great News

So I went to the junkyard today and I picked up heater hoses from a 98. I installed those and bypassed that thing they have on a 93. Now I have heat! Im just glad i wont have to rip my dash apart to replace the heater core. Today is a good day! (Also replaced my driver side door hinge, Replaced the a\c drain hose, and replaced the door window seals as they were cracked.)

Default Minor oil leak pt.2

So the other day i was driving and started to smell burning oil. Got home and seen that my valve cover was leaking. Ordered a valve cover gasket the same day and it should be here friday.

Default Valve cover gasket change pt.1

So I got the valve cover off. Discovered two things. The gasket is beyond shot. And whoever changed it last didn't tighten most of the bolts. I could turn most of them by hand. Gonna have to continue the project tomorrow as its getting dark but was able to clean up the valve cover. So much gunk was on it.

Well it has been changed and so far it is not leaking anymore. Will have to check and re tighten the bolts in a few days if needed. First time I've ever touched the engine.

What type of gasket did you use? Was it the cork one, or the one that Felpro called perma dry plus? I know one is dirt cheap, and the other is pretty expensive.

Default Milestone

Today my Jeep has hit 160,000 miles on the odometer. Glad it's made it this far!

LOVE the look of the XJ gauge font. So classic. Great looking resto project!

Default Finally a full tune-up

I changed the wires today and that seemed to be the problem. It runs so unbelievably smooth now. Almost can't tell if the engine is on when inside the cab. I needed a full tuneup anyways.

Tune ups can usually solve most of the problems that you can develop on an XJ. It's a simple motor (compared to newer vehicles). Keep up the good work.
