Tried out Rustoleum's NeverWet on the XJ's seats and I have to say, I'm fairly impressed. I bought 2 kits and was able to do the base coat and 2 top coats for the front buckets and the rear bench. They recommend 3-4 top coats and 12 hours of dry time to see max results so I'll need to get another kit to do the final top coat. I let it dry for about 2 hours before testing it with a little water and it worked perfectly. Water just beaded up and ran right off the seat cushion.

I really don't think the seats will stay dry if I'm caught in a downpour with the doors off, but for trails and the occasional light rain I think it'll do what it says it does.

Well, I had hoped to buy some unibody stiffeners from RuffStuff this weekend but unfortunately that has just been put on hold. Driving home from one of the local football games last night and I start hearing a bunch of knocking and squealing from under the hood. Next turn I take, lots of whining. And then smoke started coming through the hood vents. Yup, power steering pump blew. I knew it was coming only because it started grinding a little 2 days ago but I was hoping to make it a couple more days. So, this weekend I get to replace the pump, pulley, and lines rather than order stiffeners. Yippee.

Must be fun turning those 33s with no power steering.

Yeah, not really. It's sitting in the driveway 'til the new parts are in. That was NOT a fun drive home.

Got the pump, pulley, reservoir, and lines pulled and everything on the pump seems good. The lines are good too. Tried to turn the pulley and it's definitely sticking so I think it's just the pulley bearing. Putting a new one on later today to test and make sure, so hopefully this whole endeavor will be less than I was expecting. The really good news though is that i was able to sell a few sets of injectors to a couple guys yesterday which gave me some extra funds. That was immediately deposited into the bank account and as soon as I got home, RuffStuffSpecialties.com got pulled up on the computer and I ordered some frame stiffeners!

So the old pulley wasn't coming off the pump no matter what I tried so I gave in and bought a new pump as well. As fate would have it, as I was pressing the new pulley onto the new pump the press bolt bent. So now I have to wait until Monday to take it to a friends shop so I can use the hydraulic press there to get the pulley all the way on. I swear, I have NEVER had such issues replacing a steering pump. But that means I get to prep the unibody rails tomorrow so there is that positive note.

Well, spent part of the day getting the unibody rails prepped for the stiffeners. One more flappy wheel and then a coat of weldable primer and then it'll be install time once they get here.

So, after a long and tiresome battle, I finally got the pulley onto the new power steering pump thanks to a little help from a friend. Now that the little thing is on there, I can finally get the whole thing installed again.

Got the pump and reservoir in place, bolted in, and the lines hooked up with new o-rings. Also bought a new belt and a new air filter so those went in too.

And there she is, all nice and purdy. She's running fine, no squeals or noises from the new pump and all the air has been bled out of the system.

The bonus to pulling out the whole system is I noticed my driver side motor mount is about, oh I don't know, something in the arena of about, maybe roughly, quite possibly, in a small way....okay, nix all that. It's shot. The upper 1/3 is gone. I don't mean cracked. I mean gone. As in NOT THERE. So.......new motor mounts are gonna get ordered and installed hopefully in the near future.

As of right now I'm waiting on the stiffeners from RuffStuff and I need to fix my rattling exhaust by either cutting my muffler off and replacing it with a new one or just a straight pipe and deal with the noise. Not sure which way I'm gonna go just yet seeing how VA doesn't require a muffler.

It'll save a few bucks going that route so I may just do it that way. Thanks for the input!
