Another Comanche conversion seeking parts
Good day All,
I have searched and read many articles here and elsewhere and have forgotten more information than I've retained at this point I'm sure.
I'm wondering what makes the best donor vehicle(s) for the parts I need to do the 4wd conversion on my `87 Comanche with the 4.0L, 5 speed. My understanding is the parts may all come from another Cherokee/Comanche.
As best I can tell through all the threads, the parts needed seem to be consistent:
1. Front Differential
2. Transfer Case
3. 4wd Transmission
4. 4wd Transmission Wiring Harness
5. Shift Linkage For Transfer Case
6. Shifter and Bezel For Interior
7. Front and Rear Drive Shafts
8. And All The Nuts And Bolts For Everything
I know this list specifically came from a member but I cannot remember who, I borrowed it (thank you) and was checking it against other threads.
1. The only thing I saw mentioned in some of the threads has to do with an additional/donor wiring harness, but it is unclear to me which donor part would require making a swap of the wiring harness or if one is necessary if the right donor parts are acquired?
2. Do I need to find a donor front axle or is it reasonable to start the build with say a new Dana unit?
3. Is it also prudent and reasonable to consider a crawler-box at this stage and if so, what's a good one to go with this conglomerate of parts?
4. While doing the swap, is this the best time to install a lift kit or should the swap be completed first? -if during the swap, does this change the nature of the donor parts?
5. Anyone have any of these parts they may want to sell?
Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.
