Well I apologize now for the lack of better updates. I unfortunately haven't had a chance to really work on the Jeep since I work 50hrs/wk monday-friday, but I did finish removing the (old) passenger side rear window tint while on my lunch today.
Here are a couple good shots to try to hold you over. If you havent been following along these are after the old purple tint, body trim and valance have been removed, as well as recently lining the lower body and flares:
As you can see in the above pic I need to reinstall the rear panel by the window. I have it, I just have to figure out how to reattach it since it looks like the screw tabs, on the back of the panel itself, have snapped off.
Any thoughts?
Those of you with a keen eye, may notice I have a 97+ mirror and a 96- mirror. My driver's mirror glass was shattered when I bought the Jeep, so I got a '98 set at JY.....only downside? Somebody pulled the glass off the passenger and now I gotta get that.
This weekend I'm hoping to get the "old-style" silver wheels/tires swapped out, and then maybe try to sell the black steelies for some more project cash.
The weather is suppose to be nice this weekend near the pull-n-save so maybe I'll make a run at their second location....see what I can find.
It's crossed my mind to paint my grill and bezels. The front header/grille surround is all chipped from rocks, I've thought of lining that to match the flares and lower body. Also maybe paint the silver wheels while their off.
Decisions, decisions, decisions.....
I've gotta say though.....I'm really liking how its all coming together so far.
Man, I need to try to take the Jeep out on some back roads to get yall some better pictures.

Also, can I get the title of this thread changed to TMC's 91 2dr "Simple, Yet Useful" Build?

Well I apologize now to anyone following along because there aren't any updates from this weekend. I didn't get a chance to go to the Pull-n-Save's second location because I ended up doing some work saturday for a friend of mine.
I also wasn't able to pick up the set of Turbines because the guy, whose shop they are in, was out of town this weekend. I am however gonna meet him later in the week when he's back and get them. Then its just a matter of swapping out the black steelies. The Turbines aren't rusted, just the top coat is starting to flake a little. (still deciding on painting the silver ones or not before hand)
Hopefully I can sell the black steel wheels and tires and get some more $ for the "Jeep fund" can.
However, this coming weekend I'm really hoping to have another big weekend like last weeks. A small list of options I'm trying to decide between is either:
-go to check out the JY second location and if its a dud, hit up the main one again
-do some major body work
-work on my plans for rear storage
-work on things like the wheels, grill, and bumpers
-or any combination of the above
If I do go to the JY I still need:
-passenger mirror glass (or whole unit and return the other one)
-97+ manual shift boot, ****, and bezel
-rear hitch
The main JY location I got all the parts from had an XJ with longer coils than mine (not sure length, would need to compare) and I'm not sure what the leaf springs were like. If they were an actual lift kit, depending on the height and condition, I may pull those as well.
Sorry to disappoint, but this coming weekend should be a good one and as always, thanks for following along.

I went to the Pull-N-Save second location this past weekend. It was a pretty decent haul. I got:
-new lower shift boot (mine was cracked several places)
-newer shift **** from a Suzuki (Sidekick/Samurai?)
-factory switch and bezel to move my rear window wiper and defroster together so I can put switches on the other side
From the main location I got:
-97+ shift boot bezel (not broken! :O)
-97+ e-brake cable (to tweak mine a little)
-97+ console ashtray
-97+ transfer case **** and lever
-passenger mirror glass (from a Caravan and fits perfect)
-barely used gun rack (for rear window storage)
-factory blank panel for switches above
At the secondary location they had several S-10 Blazers that I wanted to pull leafs from to make a pack....2 even had new Bilsteins that I wanted to pull SO bad (Id use all four rears for all four corners on the XJ) but my socket extension wasn't long enough to reach the upper mounts.
The main location had a newer 2 door XJ with a nice factory hitch that I want to pull as well but I ran out of WD-40 and it was getting later in the day.
Lets just say I will be back for both the springs, shocks, and hitch just ASAP!
I am in Texas right now visiting family so there wont be any updates on the Jeep till I get back. I did however get the newer shift ****, shift bezel, and TC lever/**** installed before we left.
The pictures above make the new shift **** from the 'Zuke look huge, but its the perfect size and height while Im driving. More to come once I get back. So to my fellow forum members, from The Lone Star State.......keep Jeepin.

I have the same problem. I'm lacking the panel though, so I'm fabricating a new one. Thinking of just gluing it on with silicon glue.

Small Updates!
Well I'm back from the Lone Star State....
For the past 12 years on the last two fridays/saturdays in October, our town puts on two haunted houses and a haunted hay ride to raise money for things in town. Both of the local colleges actually have it on their "Top 50 things before you graduate"......so naturally work and everything is crazy busy this weekend and next, since our population is just under 1000. I was however able to work on the Jeep some.
The first thing I did was finally put on my 97+ passenger side mirror. When I got both mirrors, that one was missing the mirror glass. After scouring online and part stores, I basically found out that I could either:
A:buy a brand new entire unit ($40+)
B:have a glass shop cut a custom size mirror
C:JY hunt for a stocker/close fit
The last option ended up working out and costing like $4. The mirror glass is from a Caravan (year unknown) and it is almost the perfect size. It is slightly larger than the stock XJ mirror and I did have to do some trimming on the sides, but it is officially installed.
The results from the drivers seat are ten-fold compared to the tiny stock 96- mirror.
And it looks good too since it matches the other side finally
Next, the Jeep got a nice fresh oil/oil filter change. After much back and forth (reading online/my own personal experience) I decided to try out Shell's Rotella T 10w-30 with a Napa Gold filter. The Rotella oil was on sale at the time so I figured even if the newly rebuilt engine doesn't seem to like it, I'll just swap to something else. No problem. I gotta say though, I am VERY curious how it does with it....
After that, I wanted to swap my wiper/washer and defroster switches to one side to make room for switches or what not on the other side.
How it looks stock:
Of course to do this you have to remove the dash panel. Then from there, to remove the left side bezel is just a single screw. The right side bezel screw however is hidden behind the cigarette lighter bezel. I just had to remove those screws and then you can remove the right side switch bezel.
Here are my two "stock" bezels next to the new style from the JY.
Well after the bezels were removed, I decided I should remove the cluster so I could reroute the wiring harness for the defroster over to the right of the steering column. Long story short.....the harness is to short lol. It won't reach. So I have two choices, extend the harness, or leave the switches where they are. I was running out of daylight at this point so I just put the switches back for now while I decide.
Always so many decisions.....
aaannnndddd thats why I love it!
Until next time...

On mine they aren't even actual vents, so it's not like I'd be sealing something up or out. I wonder how it would look as a piece of sheet metal with just a slight curve or something to match the body lines....
