Definitely gonna finish doing the rest of it in a couple years after I finish with the wife's MJ. Just didn't want to have to strip it again. Made sense to do it with the undercarriage but it does look a bit silly now.

You did it at the perfect time and saved a ton of work in the future..An engine bay like the XJs would keep me from changing the color long before any jamb spraying would..

Reassembled and cleaned

Painted

Mounted the T case and am hoping it seals as I have the short input on this one so I had to run the trans output seal out further than I would of liked. Fingers crossed.

Started sound deadening

Also stole the shackles off the MJ, powder coated and installed them and then got the front and rear bumpers powder coated as well.

I didn't take a before picture but the factory 5.25" speaker was recessed about .5" and some fabrication was needed to fit the 6.5" speakers I got for it. Had to cut the hole bigger and recess the speaker about .75" so that the door panel could still go on without being cut up.

Cut some new mount rings out of sheet metal

Installed rivet nuts to mount the speaker, filled the gaps with Devcon and painted.

NVX speaker baffles and acoustic pad

Sound deadened the door on the outer skin, covered the holes and resealed the door.

Door panel back on and still looks factory.

Picked up a sound bar for mine as it didn't have the be, not sure if it was available in 91. Getting the same 6.5" NVX coaxials. Some trimming and modification to the speaker frame to get the factory grills to fit but it turned out ok.

So after some mock up it was clear the same 6.5" NVX speakers weren't going to fit recessed into the rear hatch as they were too tall. Luckily tho, they did come with a spacer ring to protect the surround and cone. I top mounted them on the hatch and when the rear panel goes back on it will contact the spacer and be ok. The bow in the panel will be hardly noticeable so I'm happy with that.

And big news as I finally found a teal XJ that wasn't rusted out. Naturally the wife and I snagged it. 1996 SE 4.0 4WD.

I love that blue! Every time I see one I kick myself for not buying the one I looked at a couple of years ago, 4x4 with 130k, for $900!

New shifter boot

Wired in a NVX Bluetooth receiver. Wasn't too hard once I found the information, basically just send the input into it and then remove a resistor. You give up AM but nobody listens to that anyways. Sound quality is okay however I am a bit picky when it comes to sound quality, so we'll see how I fare with it. Nice to be able to adjust your volume with the factory look and ****.

3D printed a mount for the receiver and basically just put it up underneath the dash near the steering column

Front drive shaft rebuilt and installed. Picked up an iron Rock off-road hack and tap for the 242 transfer case will need to find another front drive shaft for back there.

Installed adhesive carpet protection film. I've got two big dogs and I'm over digging hair out of the carpet and seats.

Won't their nails just pierce it?

Possibly, but I'll still get a cargo liner and seat covers.
