My 2000 XJ Rubicon Express Install

Here are some pics of the install of my viper Alarm/Starter system. This thing is badass, it has it all. I press the lock button, it locks my doors, closes my windows and arms the alarm all by itself. The keyfob has a USB port with built in rechargeable lithium ion batteries and is fully programmable right down to the color of the display. I had it installed at a local future shop, it took a little over 3 hours start to finish. Now I can start my Jeep from over a mile away with the keyfob or from anywhere in the world with an iphone or iPod touch (which I don't have yet) and if any little punks go near it, my keyfob will vibrate and beep and my cellphone will page me and both will tell me exactly what is going on with my truck. I like everything about it so far, money well spent imo.
Yes, I did take off my fancy rims. I had a little run in with the law and was warned that I was not allowed to have my tires sticking out past my fender flares, so I switched back to my stock rims until I can figure out what I am going to do about the flares.
The guy who did my install has been doing car starter installs for over 15 years. He has installed thousands of these things and has it down to a science. The wiring harness he setup looks stock, the cleanest install I have ever seen. Good stuff.

Are you saying you had the tires dismounted from the new wheels & mounted onto the stock wheels - and you intend to reverse this? Wow. They're strict over there - but then again, I remember visiting my sister in Canada, in an area where you were NOT allowed to park your car on the street. I was stunned on that one - but Canada scored points with me on that issue .
Back on topic: Try 4 TJ rear flares. You already spent a bundle, no need to spend another fortune on aftermarket flares. If they are cut & installed the right way, your Jeep can still look great & the law will be happy. You would have to cut the fenders though, as you will for pretty much any aftermarket flares. I dunno what the backspacing is on the wheels you bought, but you could swap them for wheels with more b.s. and keep the stock flares. You could end up with some rubbing, though.
Question: How did you get 5.5" lift from 3.5" leaf springs? I guess I missed it because I didn't see which shackles you used.

Jeep looks great! Looks Just like mine, just 1" higher.. Hope RE continues to take good care of ya. They busted them for me on some warranty stuff on my old ZJ, and hosed a few buddy's of mine also. Hope your experience is better.

The rubicon express lift's are based on stock suspension. My leaf springs were 9 years old, so I guess they were sagged pretty good, I am sure that once the new leafs settle in that I will be closer to the advertised 3.5". I didn't use any aftermarket shackles.

So far so good with Rubicon Express. I am very happy, but we'll see if I have to warranty anything how smooth that goes.

btw...I also added a Flowmaster 50 Series SUV muffler this week. Part # 52457. Sorry I don't have pics of that.
It has a nice throaty sound to it, and it's not so loud that the police will be bugging me. Overall I am happy with it. Though it is much larger than the stock muffler I had and can now be seen from the side of my Jeep.

Thanks man. I hope you are as happy with the RE kits as I am.
I've got a little over 2000km on this kit now, over some incredibly rough back country washboard mining roads and some mid level wheeling. And the suspension has settled down a little less than a quarter of an inch. It's riding even better now that the suspension is breaking in.
I might be changing front wheel bearings soon though. I guess the 10 year old stock bearings are not liking the 31" tires very much. No worries, I'll probably just do all 4 at the same time with some Timkens.

Still messing around with tweaking the alignment and stuff, but I am more than happy with the kit I bought. Those OME shocks are the best built shocks I have ever seen. The ride is amazing, it's a 100% improvement over the stock ride in every way. You will be very happy with them. These things live to make washboard roads and pot holes seem irrelevant.
I was worried about the rear shock bolts as well, but we didn't break any of them. I sprayed them a couple hours before with some penetrating oil and we took our time to heat them up a bit and then slowly rock them out by loosening a quarter turn and re-spraying with penetrating oil, then tightening then loosening again over and over and they just came right out smooth as can be.
The only bolts in the whole truck that we cut out with the grinder were the front lower sway end link bolts. We cut them short with the grinder and then used a hammer chisel to knock the bolts out. Took about 15 minutes for both. Otherwise it was a super smooth install.

Thanks for the comments/reply, last weekend I in stalled my OME Nitro's.... wow what a vast improvement over the old ones.... I had no trouble at all with any bolts/nuts being removed...as you said I gave them all a good soaking over the previous week before I started...all was good... Im having a little troble getting my old S/damper out..as the tappered bolt is frozen... am getting a ball joint remover to get this out....

Nice XJ. I have the RE lift myself and love it. Please let me know how you like the OME shocks with it. I have been looking to replace my mine as I just put on the lowest priced white ones that come standard with the RE kit from Quadratec.

That's just because the 2000 Cherokee is the best Jeep ever. Our bolts don't even rust like other lesser year models.
