You can get a cheap donor vehicle or just get a Dana 30, new drive shafts, a TrAns and transfer case. I got all my stuff super cheap

I knew that lol i meant tips on the actual swap... Mines a 94 and the parts are all from a friend of a friends 98. I think i can do the front axle swap all pretty easily in one night or something to keep it driveable

No sir. Can't use anything from a 98. I would stick to 92-96

And it took me a weekend to do mine. I did the Dana 30 a week before I did the TrAns.

Axle would still work. But TC and Trans may not. Well, the TC would but I'm pretty sure the sensors are different. Didn't they have a 242 TC? And yes, the transmission would not work due to the TCU being redesigned in late 97. I've looked extensively and for my 2001, id need a Dana 30 Lp because apparently the HP rubs on something... can't remember ATM.

If you've never dropped a tranny before and fairly know what you are doing, it will take ~15 hours or more with 3 peeps, air tools and one floor jack. Just did mine.
