Definitely very interested in more info/pictures on the 5.2 swap. I've wanted to do that in a XJ for a very long time, only with a NV3500 instead of the 44re.

did some stuff saturday. got a stock spectra premium radiator, 1 core 1 inch thick aluminum, figured id give it a shot for 80$ on amazon. then made a shroud out of some scrap 1/8th inch diamond i grabbed from work. sheared the piece to 16 x 32 1/2 inches, had the design in my head to wrap around the radiator and use the upper studs as a mounting point and the lower just gets sandwiched between the rad and the rad support. used the brake to bend the top and bottom. cut out 3 10 inch holes with a plasma cutter and a circle jig. used 10-24 self tappers to mount the fans. the fans i ordered from jegs for $16.50 a piece. so for 50$ i have fans that people sell for 300$. the fans are "rated at 850 cfm" i dunno if they move that much.....but all 3 combined plus this stock radiator cool the 5.2 better then what i had before. i can actually drive it in august now!

holy poop i need some dynamite. the tranny just took a dump at work. bad sounds coming from it, possible front pump? sounds like a power steering pump.... and i got no foreward or reverse unless you rev it up then it slams into gear. ****ing ****ty *** 44re pos.
so anyway. after my rant about how terrible the 44re is, im doing some research and it looks like nv3500s came behind 5.2s in dodge pickups. can i get the dodge trans setup and swap to a 5 speed using the nv3500 and keeping the np242? anyone have experience with this?

could i potentially use an xj clutch master cylinder with a nv3500 from a dodge ram 1500? they have different master/slave cylinders. think it would work?

not sure about the transfer case, but so long as you get a nv3500 from a dodge that was behind a 5.2L it'll bolt up fine. Grab the flywheel and starter because i believe they are different. XJ master + Dodge Slave + custom bent line to get it working

ive been researching pretty heavily. i think it will work with an ax15. if i get a bellhousing from a 5 speed dakota w/ the 3.9, dakota starter, (gonna need a center dump driver side header) get a flywheel and clutch off of a ram that has the 5.2, and the xj master cylinder should work with the dakota bellhousing. just not sure if the 5.2 flywheel is larger then the 3.9...might have issues with the starter

got some work done. got a bellhousing from a 95 dakota 3.9 5 speed (ax-15). got a flywheel/clutch kit for a 96 dodge ram 5.2l 5 speed (nv3500 trans). got a starter for the 95 dakota. got an ax-15 from a 98 jeep cherokee. pedals and master/slave cylinder from a cherokee, and i got some block huggers from summit racing.
i replaced the dented oil pan and while that was off replaced the leaky rear main seal.
found this ax-15 with 67000 miles on it. was sitting in storage for 14 years at the junkyard.
cleaned up pilot shaft, splines, painted throwout guide/seal. also cleaned and painted the new bellhousing.
working on stuff at work
old trans out
oil pan down, doing the rear main seal
new oil pan
new flywheel, and clutch in
new trans ready to go in
transfer case bolted up resting on the xmember at this time.
