Smile North MI 2000 XJ 3.5" RE

And so it begins...

My first build. I got her bone stock about 6 months ago and ever since i have wanted a lift. Did lots of research and started to save money but as everyone knows who has them kids come first. So needless to say it was going to be a long time before i could purchase it, but my old man had a trick up his sleeve he and my wife surprised me for my b-day and got me the lift. (heck of a gift!!)

so here it goes...

Default Phase 1

Phase1: the soak

My lift should be here in two days so i started to soak everything with BP (especially the top of the rear shocks) and got her up off the ground to start some disassembling.

thanks everyone for that advise hopefully i wont shear anything!

Way to go. Looking forward to seeing how much lift you get and process. Can you get pics of the kit and parts prior to install? much appreciated.

I got antsy today so i figure i could at least pull off the rear shocks as i wait for tomorrow.

After 2 days of PB "soaking" I was hoping not to shear any thing...WRONG all 4 top bolts. but its not so bad. with a hammer and a punch i busted the welded nut and pushed it through then fished some safety wire and got new bolts back up and in. like i said not to bad at least i didnt have to do any cutting!

Greeting from Holland, MI. Are you going to install "Bar eliminators" in the upper rear shock mount area?

No but I did look into it. It would just be one more thing to order and wait on.
IMO its not that big of a deal to just bang them out. If i do this all over again on another vehicle i would buy them. did you use them?

I will be, the PO installed the 4" lift on my Cherokee. He broke the bolts in the rear top mount and never bother fixing it, he ran with out shocks.

Man I think this is turning into project bust bolts!

After getting the lift around 4 yesterday i at least wanted to get the rear done. yeah that didnt work. Im running into problems with the forward leaf bolt. first it was stuck and i couldnt even get her to break, then finally with a HUGE breaker bar it will spin but it looks like its just bending the bracket the head of the bolt is still flush but spinning. any ideas?. il put some pics up
