Default Hitch mount tire carrier.

Here I box tube and cut off a old hitch welded to a ford van door hinge and rim bolted to a D30 hub extended from a liberty front shaft.
I'm not done just yet.. Still have to add a little more strength.

I already fixed both of mine. Top hinge went, as usual.

Do you know if people have any problems with the removable door setup where they just cut the bottom arm of each hinge off? Seems like it would weaken it too much.

niiice dan...resourceful, versatile & secure

u still gonna try & bring the tire a little closer to the hatch? maybe cut & re-weld a 20-25* kink in the box tube, parallel with the hatch/glass??

really like it. I was thinking about starting my spare tire carrier as well. Couldnt think how I wanted to hinge it. I want mine to swing down not off to the side. Large door hinges...Why didnt I think of that. I might roll with that idea.

I was thinking that.. It's not done so I might do some finnishing work to it this weekend and do something with the lock so I don't have to get out a pair of 9/16 wrenches just to fold it down.

That can get rather annoying..
