Hi my names Alex I'm 17 and I have a 92 cherokee laredo that I'm slowly building to be a DD and an awesome crawler. When my dad bought it a couple years ago it already had a three inch lift. I figured I would start a build thread since I'm about to do the first major upgrade. So here it is.

Aaaand I think thats it.

And heres my first major upgrade. I recently bought a sterling 10.25 full float axle to swap into my jeep. Yesterday I removed the dana 35 from my jeep and today I went to my local pull apart and got u bolts, top plates, brake drums in good condition, and super strong two inch lift blocks all from the same truck. Total cost was $45. I still need to buy brake parts but I'll wait till later on to replace all of that. Here are some pics and I will be installing this this weekend most likely.

Ok I got the new axle hung in there. Should have pics up tomorow.Cleaning out the differential with brake cleaner is my next step. Then setting up new brake lines, and replacing brake parts. And whenever I can afford it I will be getting a slip yoke eliminator (most likely hack n tap) and getting a front drive shaft from an auto yard and figuring out the u-joint stuff on the axle side.

I'm in the process of swapping a sterling 10.25 into my zj, what front axle you gonna go with? What gears does your sterling have are they the same as your zj or are ya gonna regear? Is it full float?

Im not sure what front axle I will go with. Probably whatever I can find for a good price but is still a good axle. I beleive it has 3.55 gears and whenever I get a new front axle and more lift in the front I would like to go with 35" tires & 4.88's or 37" tires & 5.13 gears. And yeah its full float.

Why would you run 35's? You would have virtually no clearance. I'm running 35's right now with an 8.8 and I still drag here and there

because I still want to have a good amount of articulation. Ill measure how much clearance Ill have on 35's vs 47's though.

Hah. My bad. I meant 37's. If I was gonna use a 47" tire Id almost have to chop the whole side of my jeep off to fit it.

haha ya you would, and i know the sterling is a tough axle but i think 47's would be pushin it!
So have you thought about what front axle your gonna run?
I think ill most likely run 38's or 40's on my sterling....depending on how much cutting i wanna do.

I would love to use a dana 60 but their pretty expensive so if I can find a good one at a junk yard or someone selling one for cheap then Ill definitelly go with that. I found my sterling on craigslist for $100 and it fit my budget so that worked out good but Im on a pretty low budget so building my jeep up is gonna take awhile. But to get it looking and working right I need to do an sye, get 6.5" lift coils, drop pitman arm, possibly new steering setup, new front axle, ring and pinion gears f/r, and tires and wheels and I think thats all the more major stuff. Sooo sadly maybe another half a year to a year and itle probably be going again.
