why did you pass on the fun stuff you got tires you could make it and if your scared dont wheel alone and those paths looks mad easy you shouldn't even have to think about 4LO just 4HI it the whole way and go slow

That place looks pretty cool. I would run alot of that stuff in my (almost) stocker. You have built a very capable machine. Dont be affraid to use it.

i have a completely stock suspension on my jeep and i went thru alot worse mud with stock street tires then the 2 trails you thought about not going down you have a very nice rig you should be pushing its limits to see what it can do...here is a pic of the mud i went thru

Alright guys, I understand... you're disappointed

Honestly, I would've had NO PROBLEM getting dirty or tackling some more difficult obstacles if I had someone with me for recovery. I'm not locked, so mud scares me and the fact that I was most likely trespassing was making me nervous.

Also, in case you forgot, I'm new to Jeeps and offroading! I've only owned a Jeep since late May 2010. The only wheeling I've done is what you've seen and a little fooling around behind my friend's farm. This was literally my third time haha.

Sadly, I have no idea what my rig is capable of... but I promise to be more aggressive the next time I'm out.

Nice build!! I dont blame you on the mud... any chance that I get i pass to. (Not because Im scared, I just absolutely HATE mud)

You do mud once and you wont do it again...unless you love cleaning the crap for the next week out of your Jeep.... belive me ...its crap, gets in every where... I have been wheeling for many a year... give me rocks, boulders, steep climbs, side slopes, deep water anytime.... mud you can have it... last time I played in the poo .well lets see, stuffed front engine seal, stuffed up altenator, stuffed up radiator... yep I on mud, but all of the pics you show is all very, very easy for the Xj...

we aren't saying yay on mud he passed up some light watery trails with hardly any mud and if you go all out of course you'll get messed up you all completely misunderstood what we were talking about we just suggested going through the little water crossings he put pics of up...

How many bolts holes did the front bumper come with? I only see one bolt in it in pic you posted? Im intrested in the same bumper and wondering..

The bumper is fastened by 3 bolts in the factory mounting location and also further down the frame rail by an additional 4th bolt for reinforcement. That's a total of 4 bolts per side.

My buddy in the brown truck stopped by today. He dropped off a few things:





New gears (4.56) and bearing kits as well as a new carrier for the D30 that will accept the lower ratio gears.

Got an appt. this saturday to drop off the XJ for the install work, really excited to get some power back!

Also, went out and bought a tool chest. Felt like I deserved it since I've been working so hard the last couple months. I love buying stuff for the garage (my home away from home).


Pretty cool little unit actually, ball bearing drawers and even has a power strip on the side of it. Drawers even came lined with those fancy shmancy rubber liners. I wanted to get the one with a refrigerator and sound system but I didn't have $2000 on me, haha.

So when I purchased the hitch for my XJ I didn't plan on doing any real towing, just wanted to have it for recovery purposes. Well, I made an appointment for the gear installation and realized my fiancee is out of town so I had nobody to give me a ride back from the shop. Ended up renting a tow dolly from U-Haul and towing my other car to the shop, dropping the Jeep off and towing the dolly back with my Mazda.



Worked out pretty good, I was little nervous though b/c the XJ isn't exactly a towing rig. It doesn't really weigh that much and the Mazda weighs in only a few hundred pounds less. With the stock gears (not for long), larger tires and weight of the Mazda behind me I had to be extra careful. I stayed below 60mph, kept it in 3rd gear and took it easy.

Everything went smooth until I finally arrived at the shop, I turned right onto the street and I must have taken it a little to sharp/fast b/c the rear end of the XJ slid out on me a little bit. The roads were pretty wet, so I'm sure that had something to do with it. I guess the Mazda just wanted to continue going straight

Anyway, me and the vehicles made it safe and sound.... but most importantly the XJ is getting the gears installed Monday!
