Any chance of swapping out the dead injector for a good one? Maybe contact where you purchased them from?

I would assume so. That's essentially what I did after all - just need to buy a single 703 injector to replace the one original, single-port injector that's in the rail now.

I bought them from a user on here - can't remember his name but he's one of the guys with an ongoing thread here. The way I see it is these are refurbished used parts - the responsibility is on me really as I assumed the risk. I don't want a refund. I would like to find a single injector though, so yeah - maybe I can score another one instead of buying six all over again.

Quick update on the mileage after the injector swap. 18 mpg on average with the GF driving (mixed highway and city traffic). Not bad for 3.07 gears and steel wheels!

I really want to get rid of the slip yoke - the driveline vibes are getting annoying. Not sure if I want to invest the money in doing an NP242 swap instead - you know, rebuild one with a short shaft conversion. The only reason is my GF drives this and I'm thinking the fulltime would be much nicer for her if the weather actually gets bad. I'd hate for the driveline sloppiness that some people describe with an ax15 and an NP242 to show up, but my thought would be a rebuild, short shaft converted case would be okay and relatively smooth.

The headliner is going to need to be replaced soon. I think I'll put some sound-deadening up there when I do that.

Hey bud I know these pictures are a bit older but I wanted to point out for people reading that in the pictures the reason the shackle wont fit over the eyelet is because the leaf springs are backwards. Im sure you've already figured this out by now. The bushing on the front (forward most on the jeeps rear setup) is larger and the rear is smaller to accomodate the shack that mounts into the frame on the jeeps rear. I made the same mistake when I was installing new leaf springs and my shackle wouldnt fit over the bushing. Im like WTF. Then I realized when I compared them to stock ones the larger bushing goes forward and the smaller in the rear for the rear shackle to bolt in.

Other than that the jeep looks great! I always love red XJs.

Ha - I totally get why you would say that but they're not backwards - the distance from the spring perch mounting pin and the eyelets are different. If I flipped them, the rear axle wouldn't align. The Rancho spring eyelets are seriously just too wide for factory shackles.

I did initially put the same size bushing in both ends and quickly realized that was incorrect. Rancho provides larger bushings for the front eyelets which are in there now.

Small update - took ol' RJ to Windrock for an off road event. Didn't wheel in anything other than the muddy field where we camped but I did live out of it for three days, which was cool!

This was my first extended use with the awning and the room and I gotta say, it's super cool! It rained really hard during the trip and everything inside stayed dry. There was some sweating here and there, but overall very pleased - I even cooked inside!

Full pics of the event and wheeling are here if you're interested: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmLZHPsm

Before the trip, I rotated the tires, changed the oil and installed a CB - it's just a Cobra 19 with a small fire stick antenna. The mount came from a guy here on the forum.

Hauled a cheap, non-American-made Schwin home with an equally cheap hitch mounted bike rack ($90 vs $400+ for a Thule).

Fully loaded here - just a little rear squat. It handled the weight very well though!

Aired the awning and tent out before putting it all away again.

Then, finally... I had to give it back to the GF.

Long time, no update. Since the last post here, RJ has received a couple of upgrades here and there, but has mostly just been driven. it's got 170K on the clock and still kicks it! Here's what's been done since the last post:

In the summer of 2020, I fixed two issues that I finally got tired of - a slow-to-start/long crank/low fuel pressure issue, and lighting. This entailed a new Bosch fuel pump, upgraded and matching fuel injectors (K Suspension), the "ultimate power cable" upgrade (also from K Suspension). K's headlight harness and some H4 Rampage headlights.

Had to get creative with the fuel pump replacement as I was doing all of this at the top of our gravel driveway and it started to rain - Subaru and awning to the rescue!
\
I also threw on the painted factory fender flares that I had taken off my 99 4dr.

Then, later on in the year, the CPS went out.... replaced it with a Mopar unit and mucho extensions.

Took it to the beach and realized it's an amazing beach buggy!

But also realized the ARB awning poles are not as strong as I would have thought - they could not handle the Carolina winds in late October.

The lady and I ended up moving in 2021 but right before, we replaced the saggy and ripped headliner and added in some Killmat sound deadening while we were at it.

The original headliner board was/is in terrible shape and we didn't use enough 3M adhesive spray, so the headliner has since started to droop again - ugh.

Anyways, the Jeep stayed in storage for about 2-3 months, give or take, while we lived nomadically until actually moving in September. Once out of storage, I sold my big Subaru, bought a small Subaru, and the lady kept driving RJ... until a couple of days ago when it went to its new temporary home - my new 20'x30' storage unit/shop!

I've decided this Jeep is just too good to let continue to deteriorate - it's a perfectly running and driving vehicle, but so much little stuff has started to fail and the body is showing the ill side effects of New York winters that I made a list of everything wrong with the old thing to hopefully embark on a light restoration.

So far, here's all the new parts I have in my possession:

-4 all-new tires (same size/brand Yokohamas)
-Crown steering box
-IRO steering box brace and spacer
-Crown pitman arm
-Alloy USA ball joints
-IRO upper and lower adjustable control arms
-IRO engine mounts
-Fairchild door seals
-Fairchild rear hatch seal
-Fairchild front windshield seal
-Cosmoline removal solution

This is going to be a busy 2021 but this is seriously one of the happiest vehicles I've ever owned - it's way too good not to put money into.

I can appreciate the simplicity of this 2-door. I'm totally digging your "90's decal" above the body line as well. For cosmoline removal solution is that an actual thing you bought or is that a foreshadow for figuring out how your going to remove it?

Super delayed response but it's an actual solvent sold by Cosmoline.

A lot of life got in the way of ol' RJ this and it really hasn't done much other than sit around and get aired out once in a while. The last time I actually drove it for an extended period, the brakes stuck and I almost went into a ditch in stop and go traffic... it was finally time to actually try and get this thing back on the road to glory!

I've decided to start with brakes/tires/front-end/suspension issues first so I can drive it again this winter (the heat works in this one and not my 99 trail rig). Then, I'll get to work on the body and interior. I've been learning how to weld at my local community college so I can deal with the door hinges and aftermarket door braces.

Hoping to have more to update in the coming days.

Sitting around is tough on a vehicle.. All kinds of strange mechanical stuff happens.. Not to mention I had to rodent proof everything that sits outside here...

Irish spring soap bars and dryer lint sheets can help deter the little critters from engine bays and under your seats. They also provide a pleasant smell vs the trapped air inside your vehicle over long periods of time

Battle any plans to remove the Blued Sport decal on the fenders?

Absolutely NOT lol - those factory graphics are a part of what makes this one so special to me - even the kind of oddly colored blue Sport decal lol. The paint overall is actually still in great shape which is nice because I'd hate to lose the factory graphic for a repaint.

I use one of these on each of my Jeeps and trailers. I'm of an age (... OLD ...) that I can't hear the high pitched "beep". People generally in their 20s say they can and there's no doubt that animals find it annoying. I haven't had any animal problems ... yet.
