Default rebuilding my 86 cherokee

okay so i bought a 86 jeep cherokee for $250, pretty good price but the kid i bought it from ran it out of oil and through a rod through the block so now theres a pretty good sized hole that you could stick your fist through, but i went to a junkyard and got a different motor out of an 86' commanche that i am in he process of rebuilding. just recently i tore the other motor apart in the jeep to get the dowel pins for my new motor but when i got the head off there were no dowels...but it'll be easier to pull. im gunna pull the motor on 7-7-09. its a slow proccess cause this is the first motor that im rebuilding and the first time ive done alot of this stuff. but its gettin there, if you have any advice id appreciate it

okay, i got it all put back together, it cranks but doesnt start. i was told that it cud be the coil or the cps, so i changed out the cps and still nothing, is there anything else that could be going wrong? im gunna get a coil from the junkyard tomorrow and see if that works, but any suggestions would be great

Mine is an 87 and was doing the same thing and all I had to do was push start it and pop the clutch and now it runs... all i did was mess with a few wires really but i would check your coil and make sure it is connected to the distributor fully...
