I kept procrastinating and never started a build thread for the XJ. After its sudden, untimely demise, I began the hunt for a replacement. My policy of "replace and upgrade" soon came into play, and I decided to try something different. After three weeks of searching, with immeasurable amounts of help from the CF Maryland Jeepers, I found what I wanted.
I'm the third owner, with the original owner's manual. The first owner used it as a plow truck, but the plow has been removed, and the wires were cut. Second owner was a painter who used it as his work truck. This shows cosmetically, as the exterior and interior are slathered with primer and paint. The body, frame, and drivetrain are, however, in great shape. I drove 3 1/2 hours each way to get it (with special thanks to pulltabmike and TattooKid), and I paid $650 for the truck, plus gas for three vehicles.
21 March 2012, I left Philadelphia with my new MJ. When I finally got home, I happily turned in the keys to my 2012 Dodge Charger rental, and I felt right at home driving a Jeep once again.
Currently:
1988 Jeep Comanche (MJ) Pioneer
7ft Longbed
4.0L Renix I6
NP231
D30/35
3.55
AW4
225/75/15s
Stock engine, t-case, and gas skids with Pioneer package
Drop-in bedliner
Camper cap
Bench seat
Short-term plans for this include:
Remove the cap from the bed
Patch the rust hole above the left-rear tire before it becomes a problem.
Replace cracked/broken lights, markers, and trim.
Upgrade the headlights and associated wiring harness
Install cab (interior) and cargo (bed) lights
Install new tailgate, grille, bumpers
CB radio install
Replace brown dash and interior pieces with grey
Bedliner, top to bottom, two-tone red and black
Bedlined floors
Bedlined bed (who would'a thought...)
I want full armor before I lift this one. Once I lift, I'll want to hit trails. I don't want to damage it, so it will get full skids, bumpers, rock rails, and frame stiffeners. At this time, I plan to lift 4.5" once I get around to it, and I do not plan on doing a 97+ front end conversion.
Without further adieu, I present to you, The Comanche:

Spent the morning with 96xjclassic: Removed the cap from the bed, changed the oil, replaced wiper blades, and ran Seafoam through the brake booster.

10oz through the brake booster, the rest of the can in the gas tank. Didn't put it in the oil today. I'm aiming for 150 miles between the oil treatment and the next oil change, but right now I don't know when I can do another change due to my work schedule.
