yes do it. So easy. Just splice in a t-fitting and pressure cap, and a standard overflow bottle in place of your pressure bottle.

So in short: It's gonna stay closed for now, and I'll do the conversion when I can afford to have downtime if something goes wrong.

This morning, I picked up my new coolant pressure bottle (old one broke), ZJ fan clutch (help with heat management), and thermostat (why not?).
Long overdue for a replacement, but I couldn't procrastinate anymore once it broke.
So pretty!
Old (XJ) vs New (ZJ)
Installed.
And buttoned up.
The thermostat will be replaced tonight when I meet up with a couple guys. So far, so good. No issues on the test drive, but I don't have any highway time on it yet.

PROGRESS!!!
With the help of 96xjclassic, I finally installed my Posi-Lok (thanks, nowhres) D30 vac disconnect bypass. It replaces the Renix's vacuum actuated system with a mechanical cable. It is temporarily routed to get me through the Big Dogs Fall Crawl event in Gore, VA this weekend. Install will be made prettier when I have more time. No in-progress pics, but here's the finished product:
It has plenty of slack inside, as you can see, to compensate for axle droop.
And here's me piloting my MJ with a joystick and a big red button. I was gonna stick out my tongue to show how hard I was concentrating, but I had dripped old gear oil on my lips.

Minor update: fuel leak is fixed. Hose clamp slipped off the tank-side and was just hanging on the filler neck. An hour sitting in the rain, surrounded by various screwdrivers for prying, and my leak is fixed.
X Full tank of gas.
One more thing off the list for Fall Crawl in Virginia this weekend.
Edit: She also runs much better when she isn't two quarts low.

Just got back from Fall Crawl today.
Video of a mud run:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVVx...e_gdata_player
Panoramic view of the Overlook.
Hit 154k on the trail.
Parking at the campsite:
96xjclassic fixing a flat with a HiLift and his new Garrett Fab sliders.
And getting back on the trail:
And everybody's favorite part when it isn't happening to them: The Aftermath.
I think my water pump seized. Coolant came out of the thermostat housing gasket, so we RTVed the hell out of it. It's holding, but I'm losing all my coolant as steam coming from the bottom front of the block.
She gets to rest.
And the personal injury:
My foot slipped off the tailgate while I was unloading, but I was lucky to have my shin there to break my fall.
