So, interesting news. A friend of mine (the guy that cut the roof off the green jeep and put it on his cut up yellow jeep) bought his daughter a black '01 2wd and then bought a '98 4wd w/ no motor for a conversion. I asked him about what kind of condition the doors were in and one thing led to another.... well, I'm now purchasing the header panel, grille, front doors, front fenders, and center console from him. Pretty good deal at $150
I've been thinking about this conversion for a while... finally saw the opportunity to get the parts needed - and in the right color. So I jumped on it. I mainly wanted the front doors so I could finally have a full-size window, then then chop mine to half doors. The center console was also to fulfill a functional desire - my cupholder, while awesome, can only be used if I block off access to the hand brake... the 97+ console has cupholders built-in and retains access to the hand brake. The 97+ header panel and grille.... I just really like the look of, and the fenders complete the look and are in much better shape than mine.
Pics will come soon.

OH! In other news... I've been pulling parts from a Jeep that one of my friends is parting out a couple hours some mornings this week. Finally pulled all the parts I had the money for this morning. Header panel, grille, lights and light housings, headlight harness, fenders, front doors, and center console - from a 1998 Cherokee
After I got done, he came out and started the process of swapping rear axles... he bought 2 Jeeps. One is a black '01 CARB XJ 2wd w/ 3" lift and 33" tires, and the other is a white '98 4wd XJ stock w/ bad motor. His daughter liked the black one better, and since the Jeep is for her, he's taking the parts he needs from the '98 and parting out the rest. The '01 has the turd in it and the '98 has a 8.25 so that's where the swapping of the rear is coming into play. The PO of the 2wd Jeep had already put in a d30 front axle, but it's a LP d30 and he completely gutted it (just wanted it there for looks, I guess).
So naturally... I couldn't resist diving in and helping out with the swap. He's hoping to have the Jeep 4wd by the 2nd weekend in July... told him I'd help with whatever he needs - especially since me and him JUST did that to mine lol. Love workin' on Jeeps and he's pretty cool to hang out with, so it's not a burden at all.
Definitely a Jeep thing.

lol... neither one of those conditions are conducive to a front end swap.
I've debated back and forth on it for years, but the more I see the front end on the 97+, the more I like it. Saw the opportunity to do it and had the cash in hand so Carpe Diem it was!
If I hadn't have gotten called in to work tonight, I'd probably be in the driveway right now at least getting the front clip done.

Pic of the coming attraction...
Everything is in pretty good shape. Got a slight bit of rust to take care of on the bottom edge of the doors, no biggie though. Also, the passenger fender is not perfectly straight - just a little banged up, but in MUCH better shape than what I have and of course, will fit the lines of the new front clip perfectly.

I did a thing.
Replaced my old coil with an Accel unit
..and relocated it for ease of access and keeping it out of the water
Only drawback is, you can hear the coil doing its thing from inside the cab... but only if you have the radio and the AC turned off. It's not really loud, but it is noticeable.

Well, this morning after mowing the lawn (after working all night) I decided to get rid of all the wind-catchers up top that really aren't doing me any good driving around every day. I rarely haul stuff on the roof anymore and the lights, aside from not being bright enough to begin with, aren't used at all because I never go wheeling at night (yet). So not that I'm trying to double my MPGs, but there's no point having the drag up there if they're not serving a purpose.
I think I like it better. I still have the Yakima rails with me in case I need to haul anything up there, I can just bolt them back on.
Also, received my ZJ door plugs today, couresty of 94XjSport94. THANKS WILL!!!!

Woulda had it done this weekend, but I was swapping the old broken d35 axle from under the parts jeep to my trailer.
