I was tired of driving around with one broken housing lense and was a little paranoid that "superbug" was gonna hit my bulb and break it, so I hopped on to the "Bay" and snagged an inexpensive set of stone guards for it. I started off snapping a bunch of pics to make a write-up for it, but I ended up getting rained on, so I turned the jeep around and finished in the garage so my patience ran out for snapping a pic with every step.

Before.

After.

For 10 bucks I couldn't be happier... they're really beefy too. The mesh is solid and very rigid, I thought they were going to be kinda flimsy, but they're not and they actually have some weight to them. They also mount really tight onto there so I don't have to worry about them falling off. I accidentally got my finger caught between the guard and my headlight housing and it put a hurtin' on my finger lol!

Finally pulled the trigger on Cut n' Fold and bedliner.... turned out pretty good, I'd say.

Still have to do the rocker on the driver's side and the lower rear quarter.... hoping to cut n' fold the lower quarters here soon too.

Just read through your build, good stuff man. I hate rust, I wish I knew how to weld so I could better fight it. But I have a buddy that will be able to do my welding for me. Do you have a link for the stone guards? They look pretty neat. I remember reading awhile ago someone made something similar with a baking tray. Or something along those lines.

Thanks man. Yeah Rust SUCKS! I can't even say that I've "taken care" of anything regarding mine yet. I'm still waiting on money for material.

As far as the stone guards, yep I sure do have a link:

You could make some out of a cooling rack used for baking... but probably won't be as strong going by the materials of both.

Attempted to straight pipe my jeep over the weekend. Got as far as cutting the tack welds off the outlets and then cutting off the exhaust clamps. Muffler wouldn't budge. Then, I tried just cutting through the pipe to cut it off... battery on the sawzall was dead, backup battery was junk... and my compressor isn't big enough to keep up with the cutoff wheel. Gave it up for now.

You can see where the exhaust has been blowing out of the inlet and outlets of the muffler:

On the plus side... went to the "Jacked Up for a Cause" show on Saturday night here in Ocala. This month's show was benefiting Veterans... so there was a decent turn out of Military vehicles as well as the usual jeeps and trucks.

Inside of the comms truck.... owner said everything still works too.

Underneath the hood of the 5 ton...

Straight piped it.

My muffler was falling apart.... literally

Both ends had separated themselves from the canister and the top of the canister itself had cracked as well.... which explained why when I was driving I felt hot air expelling into the cab through the holes in the floor. YAY!!!! I was being poisoned by exhaust!!!

If anyone goes with a Dynomax or Thrush (made by Dynomax), I would definitely recommend the welded muffler.... the regular ones are just not sturdy enough to handle offroad abuse.

I, myself prefer flowmaster anyway, but either way... get a welded muffler. You'll be glad you did. For now though, I'm diggin' the straightpipe. 2.5" pipe all the way back from the cat. It will do fine until I can scrounge up the dough for a FM Super40

It doesn't sound bad although the constant drone would get to me. I had the FM40 on my Bronco and it sounded pretty much the same as your straight pipe.

I haven't looked to see what brand mine came with but it is huge.

Believe it or not, at cruising speeds, the drone wasn't any worse than when I had the Dynomax in. So I was already used to it, I guess. What's really bad though is the drone at 70 mph and above, 'cause the RPMs are at about 2500 - that's a bit of a mind melder.

Made a step backwards in progress this weekend.... had to sell the tranny and transfer case for money. What's worse is apparently it doesn't work. The guy I sold it to is on a facebook group I'm in and has been asking for advice on what it could be. Originally we thought it was just the torque converter, but he put in the converter for his 2wd tranny that worked fine and it's still not working.

I helped him the best I could. Tell you what, when I get a free weekend, I got a trans for you. Just needs a transfer case. I went back to manual so I have a spare.

Well glad to see I am not the only Ocala 2wd Cherokee working on the 4wd conversion.

Nope, I know of a few! Matter of fact one of the OJC XJers is already lifted on 33s or 35s I believe and he's yet to convert to 4wd.

We are not alone
