Default 00 WJ right tail light won't work but blinker does.

I have a 00 Grand Cherokee and I can't get the right tail light to work. The housing is new, same with the socket and bulb, I know its not those, also the blinker works (about half the the time, same bulb as the the tail light I believe, don't know what to make of that) The bulb works and I can't imagine its a fuse otherwise both would be out right? So im assuming its maybe a wire somewhere but have no idea where to even start troubleshooting. Any help is appreciated, electrical issues drive me nuts?

Hmmm. I'm not nearly as well versed in the Grand's wiring, but on the XJ, all of the rear light wiring comes down the driver side, then the right side stuff goes up and over the hatch. The ground for all of it is behind the spare tire.

Do you have a multimeter?

The year of Grand Cherokee you have does not have a traditional socket for the tailight bulbs. Instead, there is a circuit board hidden within their housings.

To start, you could take the two or three screws out holding down each of your taillights assembles onto the rear end of your Jeep. Disconnect their wiring connectors once the screws are out and you have the tailight assemblies popped off out of their locations. Swap the right one with the left one, and the left assembly for the right side.. You will obviously not be able to pop them back on or screw them down back onto their new locations having them backwards. They will still work fine for testing purposes though. If the problem switches sides on you after you swap the assemblies around? Then, you will know it is related to a fault at that assembly; with either the connector on the backside of the assembly, one of the bulbs in the assembly, one of the contact points for any of the bulbs in the assembly, or possibly a fault located on the circuit board that is hidden inside of the assembly housing?

Doing this will eliminate the most distal possibilities for you. If the issue remains to stay on the same side of your Jeep after having swapped the assemblies around? Then, it is a more proximal issue to be looking for at that point. Possibly, it may be an issue with the earthing located to that ground?

Those plastic bulb holders tend to melt and weaken the contact with the bulb, especially the brake light one. Try swapping that bulb holder with the reverse bulb holder since it doesn't get as hot as the brake one does. And yes, all 3 bulbs are the same.
