Welcome to the Cherokee Forum!

Turn the ignition key on, then off, then on, then off, then on and wait. A trouble code will show in the odometer. Write it down quickly because additional ones could follow. Let us know what you get. You can do this over again if you miss them. When all have been displayed it will show "done".

A misfire code will be something like P0305, which would be misfire in cylinder 5.

If you don't know how to engage 4 low, just don't touch it... Read owners manual first of trying to teach others.

Nope. It's not. Jeeps were not made with V-6 4.0 engines. You have an I6, not a V6. All of the cylinders are in one straight line. (Unless you are really confused and you have a V8! )

Here's a V6 (a bit of a hot rod)

A V6 has two banks of 3 cylinders each. Here's the block stripped down:

The three cylinders on one side are obvious.

Now here's what an I-6 looks like:

This is a Jeep 4.0. One straight line of cylinders.

Here's the bare block:

Again, the 6 cylinders in one straight line are obvious.

And here's what it looks like in your engine bay.

And now you know!
