1996 Grand Cherokee 4.0 a/t
My 96 Grand Cherokee has a strange problem that I just can't resolve. It all started with a bad fuel pump. It would start and run fine till I made a left turn and then it would stall. So, a new fuel pump was installed. Thinking it was time for some major repairs because it was over 200,000 miles. I bought a new Distributor, cap and rotor, new wires and plugs, new TPS, IAC, MAP, CPS, coil, Temp sensor, fuel injectors, fuel rail, exhaust manifold with heat shield and injector socks. Now, it starts fine when it's cold but let it run for 2 miles and bam, it cranks for 15-20 seconds before it starts and when it does boy, it can smell the fuel out of the exhaust. Oh, new cat, O2 and muffler too. In fact, if I don't crack the throttle it will flood. also, there is no codes and the light does not come on.
I know others have had this problem and there's more than one answer to my question but I'd like to hear what others have done to fix this damn Jeep. It's great vehicle for everyday driving but it's not right now.

Old fart with a wrench
If you didn't use Mopar sensors, put the old one back in an see how it runs.

Having a crank/no-start condition sounds like there might not be any sparks happening.
Stalling, having a crank/no-start/no spark condition & smelling fuel, (if) having an aftermarket Crankshaft Position Sensor, and the fact that there is no code being thrown under these types of symptoms... All of this sounds like there is a faulty Crankshaft Position Sensor to me.
The ASD could shut things down to have a crank/no-start condition too. Except, if it were the ASD that were doing it then the fueling would get shut off as well.. And you say you are smelling a strong fuel odor.
When the Crankshaft Position Sensor is acting faulty.. this sensor is notorious for not throwing a Check Engine Light or producing a code.

I have the same problem, and I completely changed the fuel pump with its filters, and once the engine has reached its normal temperature, the car starts to snail and sneeze, and sometimes the engine stops ..
