I have a facebook account, it's were I go to vent when about people from the cherokee forum...lol. Just kidding... I know in my first post I didn't get an immediate response, but after a short while folks began to respond and I got some very good advice that saved me a lot of money and I am extremely grateful to have a forum like this to ask advice.

What is up dt? It sounds like your Jeep is still running good? That was fun working on it with you.

I think this is a great forum. I divide my time up with coming to this one, and going between two other non-Jeep forums. I spend most of my time on here nowadays though. I joined Cherokeeforum a little earlier this year, only a few months back..

I thought about stepping away. I have found a certain majority type of person on here.. I guess this is why I keep on always coming back, and even for the ones who bounce after getting their help.

I do not even drive my Jeeps anymore. I probably never really will again, at least not like how I was driving them earlier this year when I first joined the site. I cannot see myself ever getting rid of the WJ. I spent a lot of time in my WJ over the past few years, both good and bad, and the Jeep has truly taken me places.. logistically and metaphorically speaking.

My other Jeep is a ZJ. The ZJs are my favorite! The one I have is near perfect too. I can see myself building my ZJ up and turning it into a dedicated offroad trail-riding rig one day. I just do not know when I will ever have the time to do what I want with it? I will probably have to do it in bits and pieces over a long-stretch of time, if I am to ever get it done.

I am extremely grateful to have a forum like this one too. It has been very helpful to me in many different ways.

Sorry guys. I was just venting about people who expect instant answers on the forum. I only had a Facebook account when I was trying to correct a guy who was feeding people false information about the Kilauea volcano eruption in Hawaii. I had been following 2 guys shooting videos on the ground in their backyards there and the news media wasn't doing it justice. It was the only way I could get to him.

Noah, I too love my WJ. My ZJ was alright, but it just didn't have the same feel of the WJ either on the road or in the rough. As far as a trail rig, you can't beat the XJ for it's nimbleness and easy controlability, plus the parts available for it. It's not very comfortable, but fun to drive! I do have a problem with storage space in it though, especially in the front seat.

My 97 ZJ was my first jeep and I learned a lot about jeeps from the forum before I even bought it. I'm an old school gearhead and have been working on vehicles since I was 14 years old. When faced with a problem, I look at all the things that could be effecting it in surrounding systems. I like to share my experiences with others and this forum is a good place for that. My electrical knowledge starts back in the vacuum tube days so I understand how electronics function, for the most part. Digital electronics can get really funky because of the low voltages involved and the necessity for good connections. Working on today's cars can get confusing because you have to know if you're looking for 5v or 12v.

BTW, I'll be 75 next month. I've driven just about everything on wheels or water, but only snowmobiles on tracks. No trains!

My main hobby is building and flying remote control planes. There are forums dedicated to the building and outfitting of these, and of course flying them.. When I first got into the hobby lipo batteries were just barely beginning their rise.. Gas was still king. Over the course of about five years, the batteries and electronics of this hobby made a dramatic shift. Gas was out... almost overnight.

You would think the guys on the RC forum were conducting rocket surgery with the way they talk (well, in a way they kind of are). Sometimes there are very tiny wires, with tiny voltages, minuscule circuit boards, and microscopic soldering jobs needing done to complete projects. RC planes are full of electronics nowadays.

The other forum I always went to is a medical community forum. Lately, I have kind of stepped away from this particular forum though. I occassionally step back in from time to time. I've still got some friends over there on it, and it helps me to keep up on things.. in case I were to ever decide on jumping back into healthcare again sometime in the future.

Coming here to the Cherokeeforum reminds me a lot of healthcare in ways. The whole diagnostics process, how the systems all interact together, etc... The way I feel about it, I could also be having any one of the given issues the other people who come on here are having with their Jeeps with mine.. If I did? I sure as heck would be looking up to try and to fix it myself. Treat their issues as if they were mine. I learned soo much since joining the forum by doing this. If I had the same problem, I would be looking it up on how to fix it. So, I decided to do that with the Jeep problems other people were having. Not as easy when you are unable to put your own hands on it and all though. Or, being able to make sure whatever was being done to it, was being done correctly and such. Also, in trying not to get myself in over my head.. or, putting someone else in this same position either. This is one of the other main reasons why I like this forum a lot too. The other more experienced members will generally not allow it to happen. If bad advice is inadvertently being supplied in some way, and they know it, they will put a stop to it...

I've been a member of the allis chalmers tractor forum for decades. that's the only tractors we used when we farmed and still use today. when I had my 3 surgery and couldn't go back to work I was in a really dark place. I couldn't work, cut wood for the furnace, work of my tractors...etc. it was a really bad time for me, but what helped was being able to help folks on that forum with the knowledge I had.

I of course just recently joined this forum, like most, because I had a problem I couldn't figure out..lol, I loved my wj and zj for space and ride quality. bigger windows so my disabled hunters could get there crossbows out and was my first choice when we were getting another jeep. but could only find v8's in the cheaper prices and we wanted a inline 6. so when my xj showed up for $500 it came home with me...lol
I'm maintaining Noah, some days good some days bad......a few more bad days since the boy bought a subaru to run back and forth to work. (gas mileage).....steep learning curve when working on them....the gas and brake lines are ran inside the car???

My main purpose for facebook is the market place. the rest is just b.s.

I remembered you mentioning the tractors. The other day I was working around and on someones property. I came back to Nebraska for a bit right now. It is easier to start out learning some of the basics by being in a rural area like this. The cows outnumber the humans by a large margin here!

I got into a rather long discussion with this one property owner, all on everything to do with Farmall tractors. The guy was very passionate about them too! It made me think of you while we were having the conversation.

It is funny out here. Everyone is ussually super friendly. The people go out of their way to come up to you and talk. If I am working anywhere near one of these farms, the people will a lot of times get into their trucks and drive right down to see me.. even if it is like a mile away down the road. I think some of it is the limited human interaction they have out this way. They don't just talk a little either. They have full on real conversations. If I am really needing to concentrate on something. Sometimes, I have to politely explain to them that they are being a distraction to me.. I would love to keep on talking, but that I am in learning mode or something of this nature.

The farmer man said he had fifteen to twenty different Farmall tractors, and all were born local to the area. He was very proud of them! He ended up riding a few of them right over to where I was at, in order for me to be able to see what he was trying to tell me about them in person...

That's a personal fit thing. I find an XJ far more comfortable than my WJ. Sort of like H&K rifles - they just don't fit me. Fine rifles, but they don't fit. Now, an FN-FAL... sweet! And a Ruger 10-2. Fine rifle. Just does not fit me.

Hey, you haven't lived until you've driven an 11 ton APC at full speed down a ancient Roman cobblestone road in Bavaria, twisted like Lombard Street, sliding around corners from the top of a plateau down to the bottom, knowing you have the whole road to yourself! Man, that was a blast!

My xj is definately the comfort ride compared to the zj. Smooth and quiet, powerful. For the $ you cant beat it. When you look at TV and see what they get for comparable rides today??? 34K is the average new car price?? WTH? I mean yeah, I don't have the screen tv, the curb sensors, etc etc etc but...
And the thing is, the newer they are the more impossible they are to work on. I think these new cars last couple years have turned another corner with how technical they are...Kind of like when OBD came out and we all said Oh, No@!
