1998 JGC 4.0 TICKING NOISE (motor)
1998 jeep grand cherokee flashing the check engine light about 10 times. Right after, i tried accelerating and it was a big struggle...car was a little shaky and the jeep didn't want to accelerate past 2k rmp...When i idled in my driveway it was shaking a bit too. I'm freaking out and i dont know squat about cars. Whats wrong? Thanks

Do you have video of said "ticking"? It may just be noisy lifters, or the valves are shot. Hard to say from your description.

You are not giving enough information. What silver band are you talking about. Is it the one that is hooked up to the fuel rail, that is the fuel line. Is it the one that is hooked up to the throttle body, that is the throttle cable, pressing that will make the engine rev higher and get louder. We can only help you if you give the information that is needed. You also have to remember that your jeep is form 1998 there were no fancy computer controlled throttles like there are now. If you press on the gas pedal you will notice that cable moving.

You could be seeing detonation.
Your flashing CEL is telling you your engine is about to auto-destruct.
Detonation will create a knocking/clicking sound.
Remove all of your spark plugs and post up a photo of the tips.
The wrong spark plugs can cause detonation. You should be using Champion RC12LYC plugs. gapped to .035"
Engine overheating can cause detonation. What is your coolant temp - around 210*F?
Too much advance timing can cause detonation. Has the distributor been replaced lately, or ever? The Camshaft Position Sensor in the distributor is involved to fuel injector timing and ignition timing. Look inside the distributor.
A lean mixture can cause detonation. Plugged injectors, low fuel pressure, or the cam sensor can cause this (but unlikely).
Carbon build up in the combustion chambers can cause detonation.
Getting a look at your spark plugs may give you a clue as to what's happening.

OP: You said you "don't know squat about cars".
If you are not comfortable or able to do what CCKen suggested, you might consider taking it to a Jeep dealer right away.
Have it towed if necessary. If you drive it, you may incur major engine damage.
In this case, I would suggest you not go to an independent shop. There are too many that would take advantage of your naivety.
