By erasing memory do you mean it will erase thye error code and allow the car to start? So I touch the negative & positive cables after they're disconnected and I am clear? Does that have to be done immediately after I disconnect from the battery? It's been abot 10-15 mins. I'll wait another half hr to be sure ...

It erases all stored fault codes. You can do it anytime after disconnecting the cables. You will get a code 12 anytime you disconnect a battery.

Soldierjunkie told me that. He said that's the way they do it at his dealer service dept. He said that sometimes all codes aren't cleared by the "remove and wait" method.

No luck boys - I got soaked, but it was worth the try. Same code comes up. P0320. I touched the two battery terminals together before re-attaching them. Same - turns over great, but no spark. looks more & more like I need a new Crank position sensor. If I install a new one, will the code reset itself or will I have to erase it ?? On a '99 4.0 - where can I find the CPS? Is this an under the car job as I think it might be?

Crankshaft position sensor is on the bellhousing,driverside..make sure you use a new paper spacer or you'll ruin the sensor.

Looks like I'll be making a pit stop at Autozone after work tomorrow. What do you think this'll cost? The guys there are awesome - they'll sell you a part and print out instructions / directions on how to swap parts out. I really appreciate all your help here guys. I will report back to you in the next day or two to folloow up after I install the new CPS. I owe you a beer Seed and ol Blue - wish you were closer. Thanks a million for your help and suggestions.

You didn't fail be at all. This time last night I was ready to dump $140 on a new coil pack! Your codes helped me out a ton bud! You saved me three days of grief over spending needless $$$ on new parts I didn't need right away. Not to mention the frustration and that woul have cost me another $20 on beers to soothe my frayed nerves!
