Default 1999 Grand Cherokee caliper bracket question....

Just picked up my first jeep and it had a pretty bad pulse when the brakes are applied. I wasn't concerned because I've replaced brakes and rotors before. Got the wheel, caliper and pads off but for the life of me I can't get the caliper brackets off. Have read that those were possibly loctited from the factory? Hard to believe rotors on it are 15 years old. Anyone have this problem? Any suggestions?

Yeah, we had to use a torch and a BMFH to get mine off! Check the pad guide area on them. If they're grooved, you can get new ones by buying loaded calipers or buying them separately. If they're grooved too deeply, they can cause the pads to hang up and squeak or wear unevenly. If you just grind out the grooves, the pads can move back and forth too much. I've seen guys weld up and grind back the grooves, but it seems like a lot of work for what new ones cost.

Well. Took my Jeep to my brother's house. Turns out I'm a sissy. He was able to get the bolts off with just a breaker bar. New rotors and pads......life is good.

You're not a sissy, You just "didn't hold your ears right" as my Dad used to say, whatever that means! It was one of his favorite sayings and I have no idea where it came from or it's meaning. It may have originated from another of his sayings, "Let go of my ears, I know my business!", having something to do with a blow job.

Dad sounds like a real character. When he got the job done he said "I can't believe we came from the same womb"..... I was howling. Just glad it got done.

Another Dad quote, " Men spend 9 months trying to get out and the rest of their lives trying to get back in."
