Good information on functionality, perhaps as you suggest. one component may have the effect of canceling any benefit of the other, definitely not the performance effect I’m after. Your observations are informative, and perhaps that explains why the two fan set up is not common.

Remember I said something doesn't look right? I don't see why the clutchfan should stop when the e-fan comes on unless the fan blades are from the wrong jeep, as in the blades pitched the wrong way. The older jeeps that used a v-belt spun the fan and water pump in the opposite direction. The e-fan should accelerate the clutchfan.

Now things are getting interesting, if opposed fan pitch is the reason for a “ canceling effect” that was referenced earlier, maybe an aligned pitch and rotation could have some ancillary cooling benefit. I’ll have to examine the photos again, the mystery has captured my interest. BTW Dave, nice clean engine, with some sweet patina, just how a WJ should look under the hood !

I examined the rotation of my WJ and then looked at jewinters photos, and yours, and it appears that the rotation orientation of the two would be in a parallel alignment to one another. I agree that the e-fan would put a positive driving force on the clutch fan, unless the rotation of the e- fan is counter to the clutch fan, but that seems unlikely, perhaps PO got the e-fan polarity reversed? Stranger things have happened, nothing surprises me too much anymore. Kick on the A/C and see if the e-fan blows out and away from the engine like a forklift, that would explain a few things.
