20 or 34 fiscal hp ??
Hi,
Seven years ago, I replaced my everyday vehicle: a 97 Grand Cherokee ZJ 5.2 Limited with a diesel vehicle, better suited to my new life and the many kilometers that came with it.
In the meantime, I acquired an 87 Wagoneer XJ 4l (for fun and collection), but the ZJ is still on my mind.
So I plan to find an unconverted ZJ 5.9 LX, to make it my daily again.
I have seen some for sale, on several European sales sites, but some are advertised with 20 fiscal hp (or 19) and others with 34 fiscal hp (or 36).....
I can't find out if there was a phase 1 and a phase 2 on these models produced from September 97 to the end of 99, and which serial numbers would be affected by this drop in tax horsepower.
Is there one or more Jeepers who could shed some light for me.
Thanks in advance.

I understand, and you are absolutely not being disrespectful.
I just got it :
the fiscal horsepower is purely fiscal data, essential for calculating the cost of registering a vehicle in France.
In 1998, the French tax service changed the method of calculating the tax for registering cars.
The new calculation method takes into account the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, as well as the maximum speeds at 1000 rpm for each of the gearbox speeds (incomprehensible calculation if you have not done Harvard or Oxford. ...); BUT for GCs registered after February 1, 1998, the tax power has decreased and therefore the tax has decreased....
For example;
GC 5.2l V8 225hp registered on January 25, 1998: taxed for 36 fiscal hp.
GC 5.2l V8 225cv registered on February 2, 1998: taxed for 20cv fiscal.
Sorry to have monopolized the forum for a problem that did not exist and which was typically French administrative..
