2000 Grand Cherokee 4.7 Wiring Issues (Stalls,Wont Start,Check Gauges etc)
Hey,
Firstoff I would like to say thanks for allowing me to post my issue here, and I'm hoping to find someone who has had similar issues to pinpoint me what exactly could be wrong with my jeep!
I own a 2000 Grand Cherokee 4.7 V8 4x4 and recently I have had the following issue:
The Jeep will randomly shut off or not start after or while I'm driving
After the jeep shuts off the 'check gages' light is illuminated as well as the 'yellow no key sign' and in most cases check engine.
Also the battery voltage and fuel gage do not show anything and the car won't start
It usually fixes itself after a few hours?! But it won't run for long (sometimes longer than other times)
I have found that it has something to do with the 2 big connectors (top left corner) after a mechanic disconnected them and the issue came back up. He also mentioned error code P1698 even though I'm not 100% sure about it it could have been a similar one
I'd be so happy if someone maybe knows whats wrong!
Thanks everyone

Welcome to the forum, Josh. Nice to see a well written post for a change.
You'll probably get better results posting in the Grand Cherokee section. This part of the forum is for the Cherokee. No, the Grand Cherokee isn't just another kind of Cherokee. They have a LOT in common, but it's a completely different vehicle.
I'll flag your thread and maybe one of the mods will move it for you.

Welcome to CF!
It looks to me like the PCM (computer) isn't coming on. The gauges are activated by the computer and if it's not getting power, all the gauges will be dead. I can't see the plugs you're talking about, but I can guess they are the PCM cable connectors. There are many delicate pins in them and they can be bent easily. Some of them are 12 volts and some are 5 volts. Good clean contacts are necessary. Don't condemn the PCM before you check for good connections.
Try wiggling the plugs with the key on and see if the gauges come on.

Just what I figured! Its gotta be the connector or PCM. I hope this isn't too expensive to fix. Has anyone had experience fixing this? I do not want to get ripped off by a mechanic but they quoted me C$129 an hour for wiring works and they said it won't be fixed in just a few.
