IDK if this helps you or not, but when I bought my WJ, it had these things on the headlights. I found out from talking to bodyshop guys that it's a fix for shaky headlights. After a while the ball sockets on the back of the headlight housings get a little worn and the headlights tend to shake a bit. This fixes that problem.

Dave they did that because your header panel is broken on the mounting tabs. If you look below that strap in line with that torx bolt you will see the jagged edge whet there was a mounting tab. Common spot to break in an accident. Has nothing to do with the ball adjusters/mounts. when they break off the whole headlight assembly shakes because the header panel is flexing. They are the 2 tabs on top of the panel below.

Old fart with a wrench
Ah Ha! So the body guy was lying to me! They were probably put on by the PO from the looks of the fantastic job he did. I looked closer and both sides are broken. Nothing else seems to be cracked or broken so if it was a collision, it was just a tap. The weird part is I loosened that torx screw to stick the ground wire for my foglight relay under it and the bracket never moved.

Honestly, Dave, I wasn't able to view the image you attached when you did because my browser says "This site can’t provide a secure connection", but I made a mental note to look into headlight stabilizers on rebuild to good vehicle.
Is this what you guys are discussing now (see image), a fix for this busted part? One side was broken on the donor and the other side didn't even have the screw or the busted part of the plastic.
Thanks to both of you.

EDIT: Okay, I can see the images in Mozilla Firefox. Sorry about that guys. Thanks!

Keith, if you can see my picture (posted from Firefox) the tabs are underneath the radiator support. Your pic show them above it. IDK why.

So are mine and both broken. The pipe straps were added by the PO.

The tabs do go over the support not under. Yes the break even with a light bumper tap (great design lol). I've changed 3 so far in my jeep ownership. A 93, 94 & 2000. They are only like $50 but you have to remove the lights, grille & bumper to change it. All of mine were broken in more places so had to change them. Otherwise I would have just made some brackets or strapped it like Daves.
