2000 jeep cheerokee larado 4.7 KNOCKING SOUND HELP!!
I have just bought a nice 2000 jeep cherokee lareado it has the 4.7 v8
It has a knocking sound comming from someplace, the lady i bought it from said its been like that ever since she owned it and shes put 5,000 miles on it since then. Well i bought it i've put 600 on it while i've had it here's the symptoms and what i've done to try and figure this out:
When started and idling there is no noise!
put the truck in gear still no noise
in park when u give it gas loud knockin sound i cannot pinpoint.
also when accelerating while driving u hear this knockin.
Things i've done to try figure it out:
i've drained oil thru rag. (No metal found)
I've took cover off bottom of flywheel (all bolt to torque converter was tight)
i couldn't get to bolts to motor from flywheel without pullin tranny
I've let a mecanic look at it and they had someone unplug one injector at a time to see if they could pinpoint if it was a rod but this made no change in the sound.
Idk what eles to do it sounds like crap driving down the road.
Some say could still be a rod, some say cracked flywheel,
some say timing chain tentioners. ( sounds like its comming from underneath someplace.
All shops wanna tear into it to figure it out witch can cost$ $$$.
Any help/ideas would be great!
