You'll need to adjust the shift cable for the transfer case to start with. Pull the cable off the t/case shift arm, put the shifter firmly into 2wd, adjust the cable anchor until the cable eye slips over the shift lever arm on the t/case. If you break the retainer clip for the cable, a 1/4" c-clip fits it.

Tryed the adjust linkage cable
I adjusted the cable for the transfer still jumps out of 2wd part time 4x4 and4wd high ,but doesn't jump out in low .my light in dash says pt four wheel drive even in low will that have anything to do with it coming out of 2 wd, 4x4 full time or 4x4 part time ,when it does pop out,it grinds in park, neutral, drive.but when i put it in low it works. I noticed ill move when tranfer is in neutral when it pops out after moving the 4x4 leaver and shifter till it works in 2wd high

I'd say you have internal damage to the gears. In low, you're running in a different set of gears.

Low range IS part time 4wd. From your description on the ranges available, you've got the NP242 Selectrac t/case. In my opinion the best one to have in a jeep and almost as strong as the NP231 found in XJs. Internally, it has an internally splined ring that is moved by the shift fork to engage 2wd and the 2 different 4wd options. When you shift to low range, another shift fork engages a second planetary gear cluster for the reduction. The main problem with that ring is it's position is critical to engage each option and they are very close together so linkage adjustment must be kept perfect. The shift forks have nylon inserts on them to take up the wear and sometimes they break and create lots of slack in the movement of that ring. That causes it to pop out of gear. It's an easy fix as long as it's caught before the engagement teeth on the ring get damaged.
