2000 WJ Limited-No pwr windows or pwr locks working
This could get interesting. OK, 2000 Grand Cherokee Limited (WJ) little over a month ago I noticed the Power lock switch on Drivers door stopped working, Kind of Ignored it at the time. Then about 2 weeks later the power window switches for All 4 Windows stopped working, And I was also getting a "Drivers Door Open" message on the upper display I figured the DDM (Master Driver Door Module) went bad since I've had to replace it one other time a few years ago. I bought it used on ebay and it has worked great all this time. Ok, So was looking on Amazon and found one that advertised as "New" from a place called Switchdoctor, "I didn't think anyone was making them for the WJ anymore" So i figured, Great "New" is always better then used so I ordred it for $125. Showed up 3-4 days later and after I installed it into the Jeep and I tried starting it to see if my interior lights and window switches were fixed and the Jeep started great but 2-3 Seconds later the engine just died like someone had turned the ignition off. I tried it a few more times with same results so I at that point I thought DDM was shorted or something, I reinstalled my old one and Jeep started and ran just fine, Just no windows or interior lights. Started a return on Amazon and had them ship me a replacement "New" DDM. It arrived a week later and when i installed that replacement, The exact same thing happened. Jeep would start but not run more than 2-3 seconds and die. So i sent that one back for full refund and when i got the refund I went back onto ebay and bought another Used DDM. It arrived today and I installed it and Jeep started and runs just fine But I still don't have working windows or power locks, and it is also reporting "Drivers Door Open" again. i have FSM for 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and looked up the power windows section. and as I thought, Windows, Doors Locks and door open sensors along with a few other things are all controlled thru this DDM. It also refers to the BCM (Body Control Module) and PCI data Bus saying to scan through the DRB Scan tool to diagnose. That is where I am stopped, I don't have access to the advanced scan tools reffered to in the FSM. Has anyone experienced issues like this ? and if so, do you have any suggestions regarding how I should proceed at this point. Any Help and/or suggestions would be much appreciated....I should carify the interior lights issue, Because the jeep thinks the drivers door is open, The interior lights stay on continusly, At Night that can be a problem, I am able to use the headlight dimmer switch to turn the interior lights off but at the same time it dims all of the dash and cluster lights as well. Just FYI.... In addition to everything else.

Just an update to your reply. You were right, I found broken gound wire in the rubber boot of wiring harness between the door and body entrance and after repair everything is working as it should be. I should have checked that before, but last time i had a similar issue it turned out to be the DDM it self that had failed. Anyway, Thank you very much for reminding me to go back to basics again...... Very much appreciated !!!

I'd definitely check the wires in your door jambs to see if there's a cut somewhere (WJ's typically have this issue... my '02 WJ Laredo's lights don't go out like they're supposed to when the doors are closed and the vehicle is locked, so I have to set the interior light dimmer to 'Off' so they don't come on at all unless I manually turn them on). Another issue is the Body Control Module (BCM), which sometimes has issues. You can easily get a BCM out of another WJ and get it programmed if needbe (not sure whether or not it needs to be programmed). The BCM controls all of the interior lighting and windows, among other things (the WJ was the first Jeep to use a "Universal BUS" for wiring (aka one big string of wiring harnesses that go throughout the entire vehicle instead of individual wiring harnesses coming from different places).

Thank you Vince, I did find broken ground wire in drivers side door jam. Fixed now and no more issues.

What kind of Lighting issues are you having ? I've worked on quite a few electrical issues with my GC, The broken wire I found just reminded me to always check the basics first...
