2001 Grand Cherokee Limited 4.7L V8 MPG
Hi! I have an 01 Grand Cherokee, 4.7L V8 and it rarely gets over 10mpg, maybe 11 on a highway, any suggestions on what i can do in order to get that up a little more?

Driving habits, correct tire pressure, keeping up on maintenance, not hauling around a bunch of junk, proper wheel alignment, and using the correct weight oil will all help increase fuel mileage. No snake oil or "as seen on TV" junk will do you any good.

Funny, I was just about to ask the same thing. Same year/model/engine.
I've only had it for two days and have already burned 45$ in gas for 211km, so around 22l/100km. It has 2" lift and slightly bigger tires. Going to,take it in for a tune up to see if that helps. Plus, it's new to me so it should happen anyway.

I have a 2004 GC Overland Edition loaded 4.7HO full time 4wd towing package 3.73 gears and it averages 16.8 mpg city/highway and 19 highway. I run full syn. oil/gear lube LSD front and rear and not all that easy on the skinny peddle.
Make sure you have no codes and a good tune-up with all sensors working properly.

Welcome to the club. This is the way it is with these vehicles. I try not to worry about it. I figured out a long time ago that I would be way less happy driving a eco minded hybrid, or dainty gas sipping Honda than i am driving one of these and paying way more for gas. For many of us, what we drive defines who we are and what we represent. No turning back now.

Once a Jeeper, always a Jeeper! You may get rid of it, but sooner or later, you'll get another one.
My 4.0 gets me 10 to 12 when doing my newspaper route in the winter, but gets about 26 on the highway at 90*F with all the windows open!

O/D is not an option. It's 4th gear in the transmission. You can manually lock it out, but that's foolish unless you're towing. If you ARE locking it out, that's your obvious answer!

Sorry Dave123. I am not the guy having mileage questions. My 2000 WJ Laredo came with OD. I always understood it was a option people could purchase, as I have seen these vehicles without it. I never lock it out/turn it off.

My 98 GC 5.2L V8 gets 12city and 24 highway with full time 4WD(Quadratrac)
This is my Heavy foot on the skinny pedal. My wife is more of a "GRANDMA-DRIVER", and i'll bet she would get better than that now.
And it has 216,000 miles. Recently purchased and i havent replaced any of the worn out steering components, it needs tires and an alignment bad, and a bad Oxygen sensor(which is supposed to affect your MPG). After all that is fixed i might even see 30mpg/highway!
If your newer model, is getting worse than that, there must be something else wrong.
Like Fred said, fix your CEL's and see where your at after that. And although they sound miniscule, tire pressure(+/-)a couple PSI, can mean 2-3mpg. Its an easy fix and easy to maintain.
Good luck.
