2001 Jeep Cherokee - how to ENABLE the alarm system
Hi guys,
i have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, the key fob battery died a while back and I was using the actual key to enter the car. Had no problems entering, starting the car, driving , etc.
I recently had someone break into my car , so I replaced the key fob battery. It works, it locked the car and unlocks it but the alarm system seems to still be disabled. Basically if I use the key fob to lock the car and someone tries to open it, the alarm won’t go on
Ive seen a lot of threads about disabling the alarm system but none about actually enabling it. Also this may be a dumb question but I don’t know anything about cars and I’m a broke college student lol
thanks!

Old fart with a wrench
I don't think the alarm will go off unless someone actually gets it open. It's triggered thru the dome light system.
Is this a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee? If it's a Grand, the horn should tweet and the parking lights will flash once when the alarm is set. When turning it off, the parking lights will flash twice, but the horn won't blow. Also, you don't need the fob to set it. Just lock the doors with the button on the door switch console, open the driver's door, lock it manually, and close the door. It should set itself. When it does, you should get the horn and lights indication. It won't if the keys are in the ignition so you can't lock yourself out.
