2001 WJ 4.0 Auto - No 1st Gear

Hi all,

I have a 2001 WJ 4.0 Auto and it won't shift to first, it runs all the other gears fine but pulls away in second.

If I move the lever to 1, then it engages fine. I can manually shift fine but it won't auto select 1st.

Any ideas appreciated please?

Hi;
Try one of these conditions:

The Condition Remedy

1. Governor Circuit Electrical Fault. 1. Test with DRBT scan tool and repair as required

2. Valve Body Malfunction. 2. Remove, clean and inspect. Look for sticking 1-2 shift
valve, 2-3 shift valve, governor plug or broken springs.

3. Front Servo Piston Cocked in Bore. 3. Inspect servo and repair as required

4. Front Band Linkage Malfunction. 4. Inspect linkage and look for bind in linkage.

Engine: 4.0L

All but the first require getting into the transmission. If you're not fully aquainted with transmissions, I suggest you take it someplace for diagnosis.
