First, your Grand Cherokee is a WJ, not a ZJ. Second, it sounds like you have a warped brake rotor, which is common on WJs. They were the first Grands to have dual piston front brake calipers. Quite often one piston will stick and cause a drag that heats up the rotor when you are driving and causes it to warp. Rotor runout must be held to around .002" to prevent this and the mounting surfaces on the bearing hub must be absolutely clean to obtain this spec.

ABS
Thank you for your info about my Jeep model also the rotor problem. I read on here about ABS problems so I pulled the fuse and problem went away. Pulled the lines going to the wheels cleaned them up put the fuse back in and no problems.

Sometimes problems with the ABS on the front wheels can be fixed by cleaning the rust off the tone rings. Rust tends to dull the sharp edges of the rings that the sensors read. The tone rings look like gears with the teeth cut off on the back of the CV joints.
Once in a while you'll get a rotor that isn't machined quite true and it must be indexed or turned one stud at a time until the runout is as close as possible to zero. In other words, if it's not close, take it off and put it back on after turning it one or more wheel studs and check it again.
I've owned one for 8 years and done just about everything you can think of to fix it. It now has 263K miles on it.

Engine tap
The tapping is loudest when the engine is cold gets quieter when it warms up.sounds like the tap is coming from the rear of the motor.
