Unhappy 2004 Grand w/3" Lift-Noise/Vibration

We just put a 3" Rough Country lift in my 2004 Grand. Right off the bat there is a really obnoxious sound at 60-75 mph. You dont hear much in the lower ranges although for me feels like it somewhat has a binding feeling. They pulled the front drive line and sound etc stops when its run. Not sure what was done to the drive line but it was modified and put back in and no change in any of the noise etc. I am sure someone out there has experienced this. I am bummed that we may need to pull the whole lift if they cannot figure it out. What do we need to do now?

Check and make sure every thing is tight and torqued. You may just have a loose component. Check your ball joints and tie rod ends, your trackbar, steering stabilizer, etc. You said the sound is still there when you take the driveshaft out? Check your u-joints all the way around. Make sure your exhaust isn't hitting on anything.

I have about 3.5" lift on the front & I to put adjustable upper front control arms to get rid of an obnoxious vibration at anything over 50mph. I originally bought only fixed lower control arms and they actually made the pinion angle worse than the stock lower arms. The upper control arms were needed to get the front differential pinion pointed more at the transfercase. I have a ZJ so that might be different than your WJ. Also there's a note you should read on the rough country website about using the CV style front drive-shaft. I would investigate that as well.

From rough country...
Notes:• Models equipped with CV style front driveshaft may result in driveshaft vibration. If this occurs, replacing the driveshaft, axle yoke and / or transfer case yoke will need to be performed to rid the vehicle of driveline vibration.Link to picture of the front CV style driveshaft

Yes, I was aware of the CV style however my Grand does not have it. No, all the noise/vibration stopped when the front drive was OUT of the vehicle. I think they have checked everything over pretty well to make sure nothing was loose or mia.

If I understand correctly, they releveled and balanced the front drive line and it made no difference. This is on a vehicle that you could run up to 100 and not ever have a peep or vibration out of.

They are going to try a few other things tomorrow to see if any of it makes a difference. Wish I understood all of it a bit better, certainly a learning curve! Keeping my fingers crossed!

RadGrama,

Any feedback from the shop working on your rig ? I'd hate to see you give up when you seem to have nailed down to the front driveline.

Thanks all for the suggestions/replys. They have tried a few things, mainly they have put the front drive out of time. Oddly enough, the original/factory front drive was out of time when they pulled it the first time. About as bizarre as it gets but I have heard not entirely uncommon.

So for now, the front drive is out of time and I will drive it for a week or so to let the springs etc settle in and then they will pull the front drive again and have it checked at the machine shop. Hopefully it will indicate way out of balance and they will make a correction at that time and please please please, the noise/vibration will be gone. Or at the very least, not as bad as it is now.

We also just put new tires/wheels on it so it looks really nice!

He doesn't necessarily need a longer driveshaft. As long as he has a double carden, it's fine. You can't adjust camber on a WJ unless you have adjustable ball joints, which most people do not have. And DO NOT use the transfer drop kit!! It makes all your angles worse, not better.
