2004 jeep grand Cherokee overland
transmission won't shift out of park unhooked battery to restart comp .did trans reset procedure
Changed fluid and both filters. fluid clean . Odb2 doesn't show transmission codes(I think it's a solenoid brother in law wants me to buy reman tranny..

All auto-equipped vehicles have an interlock that prevents you from shifting out of park. On these Jeeps, a cable w/ an electric brake is used, attached to a pawl in the shifter mechanism that physically blocks the shifter from moving. If you disconnect that cable from the pawl, you'll eliminate that a possible reason.

The solenoids have nothing to do with not shifting out of park. They only come into play once you're in gear.

I did have a friend once in an Exploder who parked nose-up on a fairly steep hill and couldn't get it to shift out of park until I pulled on it from the front with my XJ to "take the weight off it". But that was column shift, and a completely different vehicle, so, ...
